I ran across the name [name]Rufina[/name] when I was browsing the newspaper of my hometown in the birth announcements section. Her name was [name]Rufina[/name] [name]Zinnia[/name] (two syllable last name). My name is [name]Sarah[/name], so [name]Serafina[/name]/[name]Seraphina[/name] are out as name choices. Is [name]Rufina[/name] a good alternative that captures the same style of names. I like the combination of [name]Rufina[/name] [name]Zinnia[/name].
I think I like [name]Rufina[/name]…[name]Rufus[/name] is still a little on the doggie side in my mind, but [name]Rufina[/name] could be a “people” name While they’ve both got the -fina thing going for them, I don’t think that [name]Serafina[/name] and [name]Rufina[/name] connote the same sorts of things, though. [name]Serafina[/name] is light, smooth, airy, even a little froufrou in my book whereas [name]Rufina[/name] is spunkier, rough-and-tumblier. I’d put [name]Rufina[/name] in with [name]Ramona[/name] before I’d compare it with [name]Serafina[/name].
I really like [name]Zinnia[/name], but I don’t care for the similar endings of [name]Rufina[/name] and [name]Zinnia[/name]. I’d prefer [name]Rufina[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Rufina[/name] [name]Cerise[/name], [name]Rufina[/name] [name]Margaret[/name], or (looking at your signature) [name]Rufina[/name] [name]Vesper[/name], [name]Rufina[/name] [name]Poppy[/name], [name]Rufina[/name] [name]Amoret[/name] etc.
I agree with the pp that [name]Rufina[/name] doesn’t capture the same feel as [name]Sarah[/name] or [name]Seraphina[/name]. I still think it could be cute though, but the spelling also makes me think of [name]Rufus[/name], as mentioned by pp. I think I would spell it Rafina or Raphina. It just looks a little more feminine to me and also makes me think more of [name]Raphaela[/name], which is pretty.
All I hear is “Roofie,” as in rohypnol. Not a good association.
I really like [name]Rufina[/name], but like daisy451, all I can hear is “roofie”…
First thing that popped into my head was Roofie the rape date drug
That is exactly what I was thinking, that would just be an awful, but inevitable association

Totally agree.
Same here with the ‘roofie’ thing, unfortunately! I like [name]Rufus[/name] for a boy, but I think [name]Rufina[/name] is a step too far for a girl. Maybe [name]Robena[/name] or Rubia? I also think [name]Zinnia[/name] is lovely.
Same here!
I agree with this. It also doesn’t seem like a human name, if that makes sense. I feel it would be better suited for a pet.
I agree with the roofie association. I don’t think this name is very wearable.
Have to agree this does not really compare to [name]Seraphina[/name]. I don’t really think of roofie but rather Rough. It’s nowhere near as feminine as [name]Seraphina[/name].
