I like the idea of a little boy in a flannel shirt and muddy gumboots who loves the outdoors, and names that conjure up this image, so I was hoping some of you could bring some new suggestions and inspiration to the table for me.
Some names that I feel have this ‘outdoorsy’ vibe are…
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]/[name_f]Lockie[/name_f]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_u]Ira[/name_u]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]
[name_m]Nate[/name_m]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Kellin[/name_m]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
[name_u]Tobin[/name_u]/[name_u]Toby[/name_u]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
Beauden/[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] feels like that kind of kid to me, but it’s a bit too common for my taste. I was just brainstorming nn for Tolkien for another user, and I landed on Tiek, which I think I kind of immediately fell in love with - sounds very much the outdoorsy sort to me. It means “bit” in English, but is a Lithuanian word. My other favorite that we are using also sounds very nature-strong to me: [name_m]Jove[/name_m]. [name_m]Jove[/name_m] means ruler of the sky (and all things weather) in [name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythology. I think I may call him my little thunder :-).
Thank you! I like your suggestions of [name_u]Carson[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], [name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_u]Reid[/name_u], [name_m]Russell[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m](although it’s unusable to me thanks to the [name_m]Hunt[/name_m] for the Wilderpeople movie)
Thanks so much! I like [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u](love it but it’s all girl to me, as the only [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u] I’ve met was female), [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], [name_u]Reid[/name_u], [name_m]Asher[/name_m] and [name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_u]Jesse[/name_u] first came into my head. I also thought of names like [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] & [name_u]Parker[/name_u].
It’s too bad [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] are unusable for you. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_m]Weston[/name_m]/[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] came to mind. Also, pretty much any name that is used for nature, like [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_m]Cove[/name_m], [name_u]Canyon[/name_u], [name_u]Oak[/name_u]/[name_u]Oakley[/name_u], [name_m]Clay[/name_m]/[name_m]Clayton[/name_m], [name_u]Ash[/name_u]/[name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_u]Dune[/name_u], Fenn, [name_m]Forest[/name_m], ect.
It’s interesting to me how personal preferences and cultural influences change the way we feel about names. Almost none of the names you suggested have a flannel-shirt-and-muddy-boots vibe for me. Considering that, maybe none of the names I’d suggest would sound right to you; or, maybe they’d be fresh enough to liven up your list.
The great outdoors gives me a mountain vibe, especially in combination with flannel. Being from the US, I’m thinking Appalachia and Seattle and [name_u]Colorado[/name_u]. Each area has a different feel for me, combing hipster, old school Biblical, and modern western/country:
[name_u]Hunter[/name_u] seems to be the obvious choice for me! Surnames seem to give me an “outdoorsy” vibe. Some others that came to mind were:
[name_u]Brady[/name_u]
[name_u]Carter[/name_u]
[name_u]Easton[/name_u]
[name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m]
[name_m]Tucker[/name_m]
Most of the names on your list could fit that ourdoorsy vibe, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is my favorite on your list! Definitely seems like what you are going for. The only ones that don’t fit to me are [name_u]Ira[/name_u] and [name_m]Julian[/name_m]. [name_u]Ira[/name_u] sounds feminine to me, honestly. I like [name_m]Julian[/name_m] just fine, but to me, it seems more preppy than outdoorsy.
