We were sooooo sure we were going to go with Zelda and now we are having second thoughts and are considering our other favorite again.
Middle name is entirely up in the air.

We really like less common names, and were quite sad that we continue meeting more and more little people with the same names as our children. The video game association does not bother us at all.
Runa we are drawn to because my husband is of Viking ancestry and very in touch with his heritage. Zelda, we are just in love with. In part for its unique clunkiness, and partially for Zelda Fitzgerald, and also the video game.
I was 100% dead set on Zelda and couldnt imagine another name. It just felt like THE name for her.
And then my mother weasled it out of me and now she will NOT shut up about how much she hates it and it makes her think of a troll, and is claiming that she will refuse to call her Zelda and is going to call her Zelly instead. Which, i dont mind nicknames, but at least acknowledge that she has a name.
Im just so torn and confused now.
Part of me wants to use it just to spite her because she hated my son’s name too and now shes so used to it that she denies ever hating it.
I think [name_f]Runa[/name_f] is absolutely beautiful, but [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is a great name as well, and you shouldn’t let your mother stop you from using the name you love most!
Both [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and [name_f]Runa[/name_f] are absolutely gorgeous, and while I personally slightly prefer [name_f]Runa[/name_f], it sounds like [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is 100% the name for you and your daughter! Don’t let your mom bully you out of a name you love so much. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is divine!
A sharp, zippy and stylish name, vintage but fresh, with a touch of nerdy clunky-ness. It’s familiar but not one you’d come across everyday and it fits with the strong-yet-sweet feel of your kids!
It ranks in the 600s, so it is unusual (and lower down the charts than P and F), but is there a possibility that it might rise in the ranks, given the love for the video games and for vintage names atm? Maybe.
As for you mum hating on the name, yeah, tbh, I would also want to use it out of spite and, given that she came round to F’s name, hopefully the same will happen if you use [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] (and if not, Zelly is cute)
One thing to consider maybe is that while you like the video game association, I guess it could become annoying to her if she was always asked about it (or she could fully embrace it - who knows?)

[name_f]Runa[/name_f] is magical, mystical and distinctive. It’s pretty-but-no-frills, fun to say, slightly rugged and bold but not over-the-top. It’s easy to say, honours your husband’s ancestry and feels at once grounded but story-bookish. It goes really well with F and P!
It’s less common than P, F and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] too, which is a plus, however, it’s similarity to the higher ranking [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] might make it feel at once more popular than it is - or, on the other hand - familiar-but-different if that makes sense.
I love [name_f]Runa[/name_f], but one thing to consider maybe is whether you’d regret not using the one you’d long settled on, and later realise it was your mum’s comments rather than actually preferring [name_f]Runa[/name_f]?
I realise this doesn’t give you a solid answer, but just throwing some thoughts out there

They’ll come around [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] when she’s born, plus she’s your child! [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is a perfectly fine name to use. I think you should go with her.
I personally prefer [name_f]Runa[/name_f] but that doesn’t really matter and either name would be a nice choice. Are you able to mentally step back, maybe take just a little break from pressuring yourselves to make a decision and think about what you love about each name. Perhaps a pros and cons list and one of them may rise to the top? Then choose what you, the parents, love the most. Best of luck.
Personally, I prefer [name_f]Runa[/name_f], but if [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is your favourite don’t let anyone stop you. It is beautiful and strong and a great name.

I love both, but [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is obviously your favourite. It’s a beautiful, feisty name with a great meaning, and your mum’s already shown she can warm to a name, so I would go for it.
