Rupert - thoughts?

Friends of mine welcomed a beautiful baby boy at the weekend, their first, and have just announced that his name is [name_m]Rupert[/name_m].
This surprised me a little because although it’s a well-known name I haven’t heard it on a newborn in a while. What surprised me even more is the admiration for the name from other friends, most of whom aren’t name-nerds. So of course that made me wonder what my fellow Berries would make of the name - do you love it of loathe it?

I actually really like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] & I am kinda excited about the whole 100 year rule. I love seeing baby Alfreds and [name_m]Alberts[/name_m] as well. It did shock me when I first meet a baby with what I used to consider to be an ‘old man’ name but now I think it’s adorable

Rupert sounds very handsome! A great but rare vintage, old-fashioned chic name- I would be pleasantly surprised. I see that you’re in the UK though- somehow I can see it on a little British boy more than an American boy.

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is a handsome name! I also like the nickname [name_u]Rue[/name_u], which I know is probably seen more as “feminine”.

[name_m]Giles[/name_m]. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I see or hear [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] I can’t help, but think of the [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] character. Because of him I’ve gotten a very British feel from it. I want to like it because Roo is such a cute nickname, but the -pert turns me off,

I think it’s quite sweet, I like old men names like [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_m]Fred[/name_m], [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and [name_m]Albert[/name_m] and of course [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]! I just think they have a certain charm to them and I can certainly see the appeal of using older names. Especially if it’s after a family member.

I really like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] and have thought about adding it to my list. It does have a very british feel.

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is on my boy list!!

I adore [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]. It is handsome, fresh, unusual and has a lovely British feel: cabs, parks, tea and butter cookies.

I like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] a lot and nannied a boy named [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] (actually his middle but he went by it). I don’t much care for the NN options and wouldn’t use it myself but would love to hear it.

The [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] Murdoch association slightly puts me off.
