Been thinking a lot about the name [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] this past month. [name_f]My[/name_f] partner believes he can get past his initial association with a childhood cartoon so we’ve been actively talking about this name and placed it on the (very short) list.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you believe it’s usable? What vibes does it give you? Have you met little Ruperts? If you are up to the challenge, what middle names would you pair it with?

Disclaimer

Using this just to say this is all hypothetical, we don’t have children yet :white_heart:

I’ve never met one but I would love to so much!

I really think [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is one of those perfect names. Adorable on a little boy, raffish and cheeky on an older boy, feels dapper and classic on a grown man. I get academia/picnic in the country/cricket whites vibes. It perhaps has a bit of a posh, foppish reputation but frankly that is exactly my style so :woman_shrugging:t2::sweat_smile: you know what, I think this prompt just moved it further up my list actually!

For middles, using options from the rest of my list I’d go with…
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_u]Henry[/name_u]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Bramble[/name_m]

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is lovely! A little bit posh but not pretentious, cute and vintage. Ru makes a sweet nickname, but [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] might work too, or [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. I’ve encountered one real life [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] and one on Insta/YT (Jessica Kellgren-Frozard’s son). I think it’s usable!!

I’m not a huge fan of [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], but it’s useable. I picture a cute little boy with suspenders and buttons haha. I’ve never met a [name_m]Rupert[/name_m].

It cute in an old man sort of way. [name_m]Way[/name_m] too [name_f]British[/name_f] sounding for me personally.

It makes me think of [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] Grint whom I love, so I’m a fan of [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]. Because of the association with him, I automatically think of a [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] as a [name_m]Ron[/name_m] Weasley type which I don’t consider a bad thing at all.

I definitely believe it’s usable! [name_f]My[/name_f] sole association with the name is actor [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] Grint.

It feels distinguished and warm to me, a bit posh but in a palatable way. I especially love the nickname [name_u]Rue[/name_u] for it, makes it even more approachable. I’ve never met one IRL, but would be delighted to spot the name in the wild.

I might pair it with these middles…
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]

Sure, it’s usable. But I don’t like it. Sounds like [name_u]Robert[/name_u] said by someone with a bad cold. The vibes I’m getting… aristocratic ginger boy with a very red nose and a quick temper who will grow up to be excellent at fox hunting and pugilism. Oh and there’s also the [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Murdoch[/name_m] association.

I’ve not met a [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], big or small.

This about sums it up.

I love love love Rupert! He’s an argyle-clad, scarf-knitting, leaf-taking teddy bear of a boy. I think this name is so homey and warm in all the best ways. He’s grand.

One of my closest friends and my cousin both have a [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] (one is 10, one is 3). I really like the name! It gives me dashing, debonair, cheeky but also “leader” vibes. It’s more than wearable, I think!

I find it quite [name_f]British[/name_f] and posh (maybe a little try-hard?). Definitely usable but not to my taste. I find the associations I have are mostly neutral to negative: Grint, [name_m]Murdoch[/name_m], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] from Survivor, and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] the naked mole rat from [name_u]Kim[/name_u] Possible.

The only [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] not mentioned yet is from [name_f]Buffy[/name_f].

I was considering [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] if I had a boy. I think it’s a charming name :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
