Ryver?

that same friend that wants to name their future daughters olivia and chloe just told me she likes… ryver… pronounced river :0 i know you guys would love this so what’s everyone’s thought on river spelt as ryver :skull:

i told her it screams white mom and she said she thought it was cute LMAOAOA

[name_u]Ryver[/name_u] looks a bit weird to me, but I wouldn’t be too shocked and I would assume they were from [name_u]Utah[/name_u]. And I prefer the og spelling [name_u]River[/name_u]

even though i know it’s river, i still say ry-ver. and she’s from the uk lolll

me too!!

It feels a bit over complicated to me and it makes me want to say Rye-vuh, but I’d probably pn it [name_u]River[/name_u] anyway, assuming it was an alternative spelling. It’s not the worst

[name_u]Ryver[/name_u] as a dyslexic is very confusing

I’d instinctively pronounce it as rye-ver

I would also pronounce it RYE-ver because 1) when I saw it at first my brain thought “Ryder with a V” instead of “River with a Y”, and 2) [name_f]English[/name_f] speakers generally know how to pronounce [name_u]River[/name_u], so why change it up?

i’ve seen worse spellings of names, ryver doesn’t look like river to me I’d probably pronounce it rye-vuh. chloe, olivia and ryver don’t work well together imo.

It’s cool! Except that everyone will pronounce it as [name_u]Ryder[/name_u] with a v

I would just do [name_u]River[/name_u].

I’m not sure… it just looks a little… off…
I think i would probably say rye-ver tbh

I wouldn’t mind it if it were meant to be pronounced rye-ver (which would be pretty cool, I think!). But as a spelling of [name_u]River[/name_u] I think it will be very confusing for others to both spell and pronounce.

I’m honestly a bit troubled by the fact that it feels like you posted this just to make fun of your friend…

Is [name_u]Ryver[/name_u] my first choice? No. Is it worth mocking tho? No.

People have been changing spellings for literal centuries, I don’t see anything inherently wrong with this one. You can still tell what the name is from this spelling - it’s not as though it’s spelled Reighvvyr or anything, she’s just changed one letter. :woman_shrugging:t3:

I would pronounce it Rye-ver. I think this will be a very annoying spelling for the girl to have.

i mean valid, but i sent it to her and she didn’t get upset about it so you shouldn’t either. it’s the type of relationship we have, we both “make fun” of each other and have been doing so ever since we met :woman_shrugging: and this is the first time she’s ever mentioned naming a kid ryver… (i asked her if she has three daughters some day what would she name the third one cause every name under the sun she finds ugly.) sorry for making you upset though?

I’m not a fan. It looks as though it would be pronounced “RYE-ver” rather than “RIH-ver” to me. I’m also just not a big fan of made-up spellings for names that have a traditional single spelling.

I wasn’t upset, I was more trying to point out that it comes across as a bit mean-spirited. If the friend is fine then ok, but at first it did sort of seem like making fun of someone behind their back, you know?
