Not naming a human anytime soon (if ever), so this is purely for fun and hypotheticals, but I’ve loved the name [name_f]Sabella[/name_f] / [name_f]Sibella[/name_f] (though I slightly prefer the former spelling) for a long time, ever since I heard it in a movie as a kid.
Here’s the issue: I don’t really like the names [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f], or [name_f]Belle[/name_f] (I know, I know). Because of this, I usually avoid -bella or -belle names, but this one keeps coming back to me.
How usable and nickname-proof do you think [name_f]Sabella[/name_f] / [name_f]Sibella[/name_f] would be, and if applicable which spelling would be best for this? I also know that the name might get mistaken for [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], but that’s honestly something I (think I’m) willing to live with. I think.
I think if you’re going for something different, yet not completely out there or hard to mess up, [name_f]Sabella[/name_f] is a great choice. Would you use [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as a nn?
First off; love the name [name_f]Sabella[/name_f](spelt this way), I think there was a horse game I use to play call [name_f]Sabella[/name_f]. But I think nicknames can be avoided due to the popularity of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], and other varients of the name. You can also use [name_f]Saba[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Sabella[/name_f], too.
I would go with [name_f]Sybella[/name_f], it feels separated enough from [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and more like [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] to stand on its own
Sabella is so pretty! I prefer it to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Sable[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as nns? (It reminds me of the Armenian name [name_f]Zabel[/name_f].)
I prefer [name_f]Sabella[/name_f] -intriguing and quite different in feel to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I don’t think any name is nickname proof really and this could get Sabby and [name_f]Bella[/name_f].
To me [name_f]Sabella[/name_f] is tied to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] whereas [name_f]Sibella[/name_f] is tied to like [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f].
For [name_f]Sabella[/name_f], nicknames… [name_u]Sabel[/name_u], [name_u]Abby[/name_u], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
For [name_f]Sibella[/name_f], SIBBY, I kinda have a total GP soft spot for like [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sibbie[/name_f]/Sibby which I adore.
I don’t think [name_f]Sibella[/name_f] would get confused with [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] all that often but [name_f]Sabella[/name_f] I know for a fact will. [name_f]My[/name_f] “aunt” son has a daughter named [name_f]Sabelle[/name_f] and they always think it’s [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. However such a pretty name.
I really like this name, but prefer the [name_f]Sybella[/name_f] or [name_f]Sibella[/name_f] spellings. I think they help to differentiate it from [name_f]Isabella[/name_f].
I think it’s reasonably nickname-proof, since it’s an unusual name that doesn’t really have any established nicknames, unlike [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] “[name_f]Becky[/name_f]” or [name_f]Christine[/name_f] “[name_u]Chris[/name_u]”. I knew a [name_f]Sabina[/name_f] at work (which is fairly similar) and everyone called her [name_f]Sabina[/name_f], not Sab, Sabby or [name_f]Bina[/name_f].
I think if you adjust it to [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f] people get less of a [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] vibe off the name. No name is nickname proof so you should pick one you like and hope it catches it on.
