Sacha on a boy?

What does everyone think? If I can’t sell my husband on [name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] would be my next choice, but I know in [name_u]America[/name_u] both of those are very feminine names. Reactions? Thoughts?

Usually the first child I see with the name is the gender I will always associate the name with, so for me [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] is very feminine. But, seeing the name [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] on celebrities’ little boys has helped. I just prefer the [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] spelling.

[name_u]Sascha[/name_u] is nice boys’ name, don’t worry.

I love [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] and [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] separately but not together. I pronounce [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] as ‘aw-ree-el’ not ‘air-ee-el’ so with [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] you get ‘saw-shaw-aw-’
[name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is nice

From my experience, the spelling [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] is usually male (e.g. [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_m]Baron[/name_m] [name_m]Cohen[/name_m]) while [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is usually female (e.g. [name_m]Barack[/name_m] [name_m]Obama[/name_m]'s daughter). So I think [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] is a fine name for a boy.

I know both female and male Sachas but much prefer it for a boy. I know a really great guy named [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] who uses [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] as nickname.

[name_u]Sacha[/name_u] is the usual male spelling and [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]/[name_u]Sascha[/name_u] is the female version. I like [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] on a boy but it doesn’t flow very well with [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]. These unisex names are just too gender ambiguous. If I saw the combo written out on the page, I wouldn’t really know if it was the name of a male or female. At least one name in the combo should be gender specific. Sadly, if you hubby won’t go for [name_u]Finn[/name_u], I don’t think [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] has much of a chance, do you?

I know more female [name_u]Sacha[/name_u]/Saschas and male Sashas, so to me it would be a little odd to see [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] on a boy and at first glance, I would definitely think that [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] was a girl (but I would also think that [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] was a girl at first glance so there’s that).

I really like [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] on a boy much more than I do on a girl. It’s definitely considered a more feminine name in my area.

If you’re in America, it’s exclusively female (spelled [name_f]Sasha[/name_f]) and you might find other parents giving you weird looks. I think there are far worse names for little boys ([name_m]Grayson[/name_m], [name_u]Peyton[/name_u], [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m], [name_m]Braydon[/name_m], etc). I’d rather meet a little fellow named [name_m]Sascha[/name_m] than [name_m]Bentley[/name_m].

In France (spelled [name_m]Sascha[/name_m]), it is predominantly a male name. In Russia, Ukraine, Slovakia etc, [name_m]Sascha[/name_m] is used for boys as well, though it’s only as the diminutive of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and rarely as the formal name.

That being said, [name_f]Sasha[/name_f] is my #1 choice for a little girl right now, so I’m biased. I love the name, male or female. If I met a little boy named [name_m]Sascha[/name_m], I’d probably assume his parents were European.

I also prefer the male named spelled [name_m]Sascha[/name_m]. [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] looks like it would be pronounced “SAH-CHA” with a hard “CH” sound like in the word “church” and not the intended “SAH-SHAH”.

If I had been a boy my mom would have named me [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]. This spelling. I actually prefer this spelling as it is more natural to how I’d pronounce the name [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] always makes me wand to say Sa-CH-a instead of [name_m]Sash[/name_m]-a. I think if you choose the name I’d go with the traditional Russian spelling instead of the [name_m]French[/name_m] variant.

I think [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is fine on a boy but wouldn’t pair it with [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]. Like a PP said it’s too unisex and people will unfortunately assume girl. I’d choose one clearly gender defined name. (I personally think [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is male even though I know a couple of girls by the name, but I wouldn’t go by what you or I think is masculine but in this case what the culture you live in considered masculine).

I agree with lumen that it depends on the spelling. [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] for a boy and [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] for a girl.

I love [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] (in whatever spelling) for a boy, it’s one of my favorites. I think it sounds energetic and spunky.

I’m not a fan of the pairing with [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], simply because the A’s run together a bit awkwardly. You’d probably want the middle to start with a consonant, like pp’s suggestion of [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] [name_u]Finn[/name_u].
