Hey all, I’m wondering what your opinions are of the name Saela. Its an Icelandic word, spelled Sæla, pronounced “sy-lah” or “s-eye-lah” (rhyming with [name]Isla[/name] or [name]Lilah[/name]), and it means “happiness/bliss”. I have been falling head over heels for this name recently! However, my two concerns with it are: 1) it would feel trendy because of its long ‘eye’ sound, and 2) the spelling wouldn’t be intuitive to the average American.
So ultimately I’m just looking for some opinions on the name in general, how you’d pronounce it (or try to spell it) if you happened to hear or see the name, and also what you think of the combo Saela Medley [name]Rose[/name]. Some other girls names I like are [name]Ingrid[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Juno[/name], and [name]Mabel[/name]/[name]Maisy[/name] – could Saela fit in with any of these? or is she way off the mark?
I think Salea is a nice name with beautiful meaning.
I pronounce it like say-la and I would spell it Syla if I heard it. Since it’s rarely heard in the States, I think alot of people will mispronounce or misspell it. Saela Medley [name]Rose[/name] flow nicely, but I’m not sure if Saela goes well with your other favorites because I have never seen this name before. [name]Hope[/name] other berries to help you out with this.
I would also pronounce it [name]Say[/name]-la and spell it Syla…I think Saela Medley [name]Rose[/name] sounds nice but I [name]LOVE[/name] Saela [name]Genevieve[/name] or Saela [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. Those are gorgeous!
I agree with pps that the Syla spelling would cut down on inevitable prn problems, although I think the Saela spelling is prettier (I thought [name]Say[/name]-la when I saw it). I like Saela Medley [name]Rose[/name], very pretty. I also like [name]Maisy[/name] Saela or [name]Ingrid[/name] Saela, and bonus, if you put Saela in the mn spot, you could keep the spelling and not stress about it.
I think it’s gorgeous! When I saw it I thought it was say-la as well, because of the ae spelling in words like fae. I would’ve spelled in like Silah like in [name]Delilah[/name]. I have a name everyone pronounces and says wrong ([name]Eros[/name] said like air-ohs), and it hasn’t bothered me too much. It’s annoying, but if you really like the name I wouldn’t kick it just because of other people. I wouldn’t bother with it sounding trendy, I think it is slightly but not to the point of being bad. Oh, and I think Saela Medley [name]Rose[/name] is beautiful! Not really any of the other names though…
