Sage... boy or girl?

I really love the name [name]Sage[/name] for a boy. I first saw it on a professional snow skier and thought it was… for lack of a better word, cool. I know that it’s more popular with girls but I see it as a boys name. It’s similar to [name]Gage[/name], which is not a unisex name. It’s short and I feel like a one syllable name has some strength to it, like [name]Jack[/name] or [name]Reed[/name].

Tell me what you think… is [name]Sage[/name] strong enough to hang with the boys?

Number-wise, it’s more popular than I realized for boys in the U.S., but personally, I can’t see it on a boy. I can see the APPEAL of it being a boy’s name, but in my area it’s known as a girl’s name. [name]Every[/name] time teachers see his name on their roster before the school year starts, they will think girl. If he becomes a published author, people will think it’s a woman. Maybe I’m wrong…but I feel like it would be tough for him.

[name]Both[/name]. It’s a nature name so it’s unisex. I’d use it on a boy or girl but it’s higher on my girl list.

And I’ve never met anyone named [name]Sage[/name] so I don’t associate it with a gender

I’ve only met one [name]Sage[/name] and he was a boy. I actually think he might have named his first son [name]Sage[/name] too, but I’ll have to check with him.
I can see the appeal on both genders, but you’re right, it’s like [name]Gage[/name] and since it’s a nature name, it’s really both.

I only know one and its a boy.

The first time I heard [name]Sage[/name] was on a little boy, I’ve never met a girl though I do have a female [name]Sage[/name] as a cousin I’ve never met her. I love it for a boy(It’s my #2)!

I know a [name]Sage[/name] (boy, 17) and 2 girls spelt [name]Saige[/name] (4, and newborn). I think without the “i” it is more boy and with the “i” it is more girl! It is a really nice name either way!

Boy boy.
I extremely dislike [name]Sage[/name] on a girl, extremely. I’m not really a fan of the name in general, but it works on [name]Sage[/name] Stallone so it’s been making me come around.

I like it a little better for a girl (it’s on my list), but I think it can easily go both ways. My husband is a teacher and he’s had a few girls named [name]Sage[/name], but not so many that it can only be seen as a girl’s name. For me, it’s a nature name (like sagebrush), so I think it works nicely on both genders. I would love to meet a little boy named [name]Sage[/name]. In fact, I keep wondering if I should add it to my boy list too

I have only ever heard it on a girl, but I think it could work for a boy as well.

girls name, sorry

I’ve only ever met girls by that name. So, it probably accounts as to why I view it as feminine. But if you love it… Use it!

I’ve only seen [name]Sage[/name] on girls and dogs. I would assume girl, but if it doesn’t bother you than use it. It may rhyme with [name]Gage[/name] but it’s got a much softer sound to me.

Completely unisex for me, works equally well on a boy or girl. Go for it.

First name- Girl
Middle name- unisex

Funny that there is a post about this, as this was a topic of discussion at the hair salon while I was getting my hair done the other day. My hairstylist saw I was expecting and asked what names we were thinking, and went on to tell me that her daughter just had a baby boy. When I asked what his name was, she told me “brace yourself… [name]Sage[/name].” It then became the topic of conversation throughout the salon, as no one there seemed to like it and thought it was more of a girl’s name. I didn’t say too much, but did think it was more of a feminine name. However, since you are considering it, and I’m hearing more about it, perhaps it is catching on as a boy’s name!

I automatically think ‘girl’, although I don’t know what it’s ‘supposed’ to be. (I don’t agree with the idea that nature names are all unisex: never met a boy called [name]Fern[/name] or a girl called [name]Basil[/name].)

This is pretty much why I don’t like unisex names.

to me its a girls name. i dont know any sages though.

A girl, but if you love the name don’t let it stop you. It can be both and unisex names are very posh. If a girl can be named [name]Maxwell[/name] or [name]Hunter[/name], why not a boy sage?

I have known boys with the name but no girls. I think it works fine for either gender.
