Sailor? Weylin? MacLeod?

I am 30 weeks pregnant with our second little boy.
Our first son’s name is [name]Finn[/name] Wilde. We have a two syllable Irish last name that begins with M.

I really like the name [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Yeats[/name] for baby boy #2. We wanted to do another author’s last name for the middle name, and I like the way [name]Yeats[/name] sounds (pronounced Yates, as in [name]William[/name] [name]Butler[/name] [name]Yeats[/name]).

But I haven’t had a very positive response to [name]Sailor[/name]. What do you think?

We also like the name [name]Weylin[/name], as it keeps with the celtic/irish name theme, and MacLeod (pronounce Muh-[name]Cloud[/name]) but we would call him [name]Mac[/name].

Does a two syllable first name sound too redundant with our two syllable last name?

Would a one syllable name be better?

Some ideas:

[name]Jack[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name] (pronounced [name]Reese[/name])
[name]Luke[/name]
[name]Leif[/name]
[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Dash[/name]
[name]Ford[/name]

Opinions would be greatly appreciated! We are really having trouble with this one!

I don’t care for [name]Sailor[/name]. I like [name]Weylin[/name] (prefer [name]Waylon[/name] or [name]Wayland[/name]) and love MacLeod (though it might be sing-songy with your two-syllable M surname). I actually think a two-syllable name would work best if you want to use [name]Yeats[/name] as the middle.

I love [name]Sailor[/name] and like MacLeod. So-so on [name]Weylin[/name]. And your author-inspired mn’s are great!

Though I prefer [name]Sailor[/name] on a girl, I love it for either. [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Yeats[/name] is fabulous. That said, [name]McLeod[/name] makes a more cohesive sibset with [name]Finn[/name].

[name]Sailor[/name], [name]Weylan[/name] and MacLeod don’t really grab me. [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Yeats[/name] sounds like a title for a naval officer rather than a person’s name. It also is kind of themey with [name]Finn[/name] (do you happen to like sailing and fishing? :)). [name]Weylan[/name] [name]Yeats[/name] has a repetive “ay” sound and MacLeod [name]Yeats[/name] would be a great name for a law firm. Since both [name]Finn[/name] and Wilde are one-syllable, I’m loving the sound of [name]Jack[/name] [name]Yeats[/name] as a sibling. Second choice would be [name]Luke[/name] [name]Yeats[/name]. I like the name [name]Rhys[/name] but it shares an “s” ending with [name]Yeats[/name] so the flow isn’t ideal.

With [name]Finn[/name], I like [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Yeats[/name] the best.

[name]Sailor[/name] is a bit too feminine sounding and Macleod doesn’t have a nice sound at all. I prefer [name]Waylon[/name] (or [name]Wayland[/name]) to [name]Weylin[/name], which just looks made up and trendy.

With [name]Finn[/name] I like [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Cole[/name] the best.

What about [name]Beckett[/name] as a middle?

i personally [name]LOVE[/name] sailor and with the mn it sounds really nice. as for your list of single syllable im fond of them all, particularly:

[name]Jack[/name]

[name]Ford[/name]

they seem to go with yeats the best.

I love the author mn’s. Very awesome!

I’m kind of digging [name]Leif[/name] right now. [name]Leif[/name] [name]Yeats[/name] M_ _ would be super handsome.

I also like [name]Weylin[/name] over MacLeod. (MacLeod is too surnamey and [name]MacKenzie[/name] trendy for me. Also there’s a long running Aussie show by the same name. MacLeod [name]Yeats[/name] LN is just too many surnames. [name]Weylin[/name] [name]Yeats[/name] M_ _ feels a bit more balanced.

Oh please.

Original Poster - what did you decide??? We too are thinking of Macleod for a male child (thought we don’t know sex) expected this winter. This is a family name for us and we also have a Scotch-Irish surname (similar to Donogal). We would call him [name_m]Mac[/name_m] as well. I am interested in any thoughts!

Warmly, [name_f]Hallie[/name_f]
