Sal- What is her formal name?

Hello!

Lately I’ve been thinking about the name [name_u]Sal[/name_u]; I find it really sweet (blueberries for [name_u]Sal[/name_u]!), but wouldn’t use it as a full name. Does anyone have any ideas what [name_u]Sal[/name_u] could be a nn for? There is the obvious [name_f]Sally[/name_f], which I like, but it is sort of silly with our last name. I have also thought that maybe it could work as a nn for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]?

[name_f]TIA[/name_f] for any thoughts/suggestions

I’ve been addicted to [name_u]Sal[/name_u] too!
I’ve come up with [name_f]Salvia[/name_f], a beautiful indigo flower and close to one of my favorites, [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] (and tbh, [name_u]Sal[/name_u] could be a nn for [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] too!).

Salamanca is a long-time gp from the book ‘Walk Two Moons’, one of my childhood favorites.
[name_f]Salome[/name_f] or [name_f]Salomea[/name_f] are both stunning too, and I think far enough removed from the biblical story as to be appreciated for their mellifluous, lyrical sound.

I think [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and [name_f]Salvia[/name_f] are the most usable, but all of them are lovely  so glad to see [name_u]Sal[/name_u] getting some serious love!

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: one of my friends is [name_u]Sal[/name_u], short for [name_m]Salvadore[/name_m]; could work for a girl too! Like [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] with a beautiful meaning.

[name_f]Salvia[/name_f] is a pretty gnarly drug so I would stay away from that.

Besides the previous suggestions, [name_f]Salinda[/name_f], [name_f]Salina[/name_f], [name_u]Salem[/name_u], and even Salvatrice could work. I knew a girl with the latter name who went by [name_f]Sally[/name_f] and I actually think it’s very pretty.

I have a friend with a daughter [name_u]Salem[/name_u] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] who goes by [name_u]Sal[/name_u] or [name_f]Sally[/name_f]. It’s awfully cute I wish I had thought of it myself when my daughter was born years ago.

I have [name_f]Sally[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], so I think [name_u]Sal[/name_u] could work for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] too, even though the sound is slightly different. I know a Salenie (Sa-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nee I think, but I’m not actually sure, she goes by [name_f]Sally[/name_f]) and there’s a doctor/journalist called Saleyha (Sa-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-huh) Ahsan whose name caught my eye. I think Saleyha’s a variant of Saleha.

You could consider:
[name_f]Saletta[/name_f]
[name_f]Salena[/name_f]
[name_u]Sailor[/name_u]
[name_f]Salvadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Salima[/name_f]

Some less obvious ones (and some are definitely a stretch)
[name_f]Thessaly[/name_f]
Ursaline
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Samuela[/name_f]
[name_f]Solana[/name_f]
Solara

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

@myosotis, [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sal[/name_u] is great!!

I like the names [name_f]Sally[/name_f] and [name_f]Selena[/name_f], and the pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f].

I really adore [name_u]Sal[/name_u] too. Seconding [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] from previous suggestion.

[name_f]Salomea[/name_f]
[name_f]Selena[/name_f]
[name_f]Thessaly[/name_f]

There’s the floral [name_f]Salvia[/name_f] but it does sound a lot like saliva. I love [name_m]Salton[/name_m] as in the [name_m]Salton[/name_m] Sea, and while I would use that for a male, there’s no reason someone couldn’t use it for a girl.

PS What I would choose is [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], with [name_u]Sal[/name_u] as a nn.
