Salem

I was looking at the top 1000 list and noticed that [name_u]Salem[/name_u] has been consistently going up in ranking for both boys and girls since 2019.

[name_f]Girl[/name_f] rank
2022 - 453
2021 - 506
2020 - 608
2019 - 747

[name_m]Boy[/name_m] rank
2022 - 680
2021 - 714
2020 - 804
2019 - 924

I think it’s so interesting that it went from never being in the top 1000 to suddenly jumping to 747 and 924. I it’s possibly because the Chilling Adventures of [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] was released at the end of 2018. I check the name [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], which is another character and it jumped onto to list in 2019 as well.

I posted about the name a long time ago and it’s a polarizing name. Anyways, what do you think of [name_u]Salem[/name_u]?

i think [name_u]Salem[/name_u] is cool, with a dark, magical vibe. The [name_u]Salem[/name_u] witch trials puts me off it a bit though.

Yeah, I agree. The association is too dark for me. If it weren’t for the [name_u]Salem[/name_u] witch trials, I think it would sound quite soft and peaceful, a bit like [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u].

I love [name_u]Salem[/name_u]! I do associate it with the witch trials, but I also think of it as just a name? Like, it reminds me of the trials but I wouldn’t be at all surprised or weirded out to hear it as a name either, because I’ve known a few Salems online. It’s one of my favourite gender-neutral names! I’m saving it for a future cat, haha

I really like [name_u]Salem[/name_u]. One of the “How I Named [name_f]My[/name_f] Baby” post from the full Nameberry site really sparked my interest in it. Otherwise, I’ve never heard / seen it actually used! I also love the meaning, safe.

I like [name_u]Salem[/name_u]. Yeah, it’s linked to the witch trials, but it also doesn’t immediately come to mind when I hear/read it. I just think of it as mystical. I also like the name [name_f]Selah[/name_f], which, if you pronounce it like “say-lah,” kind of has similar vibes without a negative connection.

I’m going to have to agree with everybody else on this one - love the name, salem witch trials association is too strong.
