Waht are your thoughts on naming a baby with the same name as a famous person - as in first and last names matching? I don’t mean intentionally naming the baby after them, I mean when the name you like heppens to be that of a famous person - For example if your last name is [name]Stone[/name] and you just love the name [name]Sharon[/name] for a baby girl. Would you turn away from [name]Sharon[/name] just because your child would have the exact name as a movie star, or would you use it anyway becasue you love it so much?
To some extent it would probably deter me, depending on how famous the person is (is absolutely everyone he ever meets going to comment on it?) and also perhaps the notoriety of the person as well (probably not going to go with [name]Lindsay[/name] if my ln is Lohan, but perhaps if my ln were Portman I might still consider [name]Natalie[/name]).
I went to school with a [name]Tom[/name] [name]Jones[/name]. The first time they heard it everyone laughed a bit but then it was never mentioned again. I don’t think it bothered [name]Tom[/name] at all. There was also a [name]Rio[/name] [name]Grant[/name] (girl)… that raised a few eyebrows.
[name]Anna[/name] [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] is my favourite combination for a girl, and the future [name]Queen[/name] of Norway’s name is [name]Princess[/name] [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]. I don’t really care about that though, [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] is such a beautiful name, and [name]Princess[/name] [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] is probably gonna go merely as [name]Queen[/name] [name]Ingrid[/name] when she’s to be [name]Queen[/name].
To me, it very much depends on which famous person we’re talking about though.
AND she’s completely adorable and a very smart and sweet little girl. I wouldn’t mind sharing a name with her
It depends on the rarity of the name, and which celebrity. [name]Tom[/name] [name]Jones[/name] (as [name]Ren[/name] said) I guess could be normal, there’s the singer and the book, and two normal names. Right now I can’t remember any celebrities I like… but if my last name was [name]Deyn[/name], I wouldn’t use [name]Agyness[/name] as my child’s first name to say it like that. And if my last name was [name]Watson[/name] I could absolutely use [name]Emma[/name] as a first.
I’ve known an [name]Andy[/name] [name]Cole[/name] and an [name]Ian[/name] [name]Walker[/name] (famous football players in [name]England[/name] in the late 90’s), and a [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Adams[/name] ([name]Victoria[/name] [name]Beckham[/name]'s maiden name).
Depends entirely on the commonality of the first name and surname, for example [name]Tom[/name] [name]Jones[/name] or [name]Matt[/name] [name]Smith[/name] are relatively common names, so just because there is one famous person with that name you don’t immediately think that the child is named after them. However if your surname was cruise, naming your son [name]Tom[/name] would immediately make people think of [name]Tom[/name] cruise, more than how they may just feel it was a coincidence with [name]Tom[/name] [name]Jones[/name]. Does that make sense?
For example, I still think the fact [name]Anne[/name] Hathaway is name that is odd, as all I can ever think of is shakespeares wife!!
Not quite the same thing, but my cousin’s name (fn /mn) is [name]Angelina[/name] [name]Jolie[/name]. I kid you not. Let’s just say my uncle is slightly obsessed. If it helps, she HATES it.
It depends on who the star is.
For example, if my surname was Lohan and I loved the name [name]Lindsay[/name], I couldn’t use it however much I loved [name]Lindsay[/name].
However, if my surname was [name]Lawrence[/name] and I loved the name [name]Jennifer[/name], I would at least consider using it.
Exactly
I wouldn’t. That makes the name much more ordinary and well known which tends to be against what I search for in a name. Plus, you never known what a famous person’s ultimate reputation will be. For example, there have been plenty of relatively normal celebrities that have turned whacko… for example, O.J. [name]Simpson[/name], [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] and [name]Lindsay[/name] Lohan. When they first started out, no one really would have expected them to ultimately have the ultimate reputation that they now have. Believe it or not, when I first saw [name]Lindsay[/name] Lohan on the Parent Trap I thought how utterly charming and spunky she was. Now look at her.
I’ve known of a [name]Tom[/name] [name]Jones[/name] and a [name]Chris[/name] [name]Brown[/name]. And there’s a football player also named [name]Matt[/name] [name]Smith[/name], in addition to the actor. If it’s something really common like that using it would be more of a coincidental liking of the name, rather than actually naming it after the person. If you’ve got the rare surname [name]Jolie[/name], there’s better first names to go with than the equally uncommon [name]Angelina[/name].
[name]Every[/name] time I hear the commentators say ‘and there goes [name]Matt[/name] [name]Smith[/name]’ I always think about that scene where [name]Doctor[/name] Who plays football.
Depends if they’re alive or dead. Alive people always have the chance of going bat shit crazy or doing something disgusting that would forever tarnish their reputation and their name.
I guess this is more what I’m talking about - Our last name is super common, like [name]Jones[/name], [name]Brown[/name] and [name]Smith[/name].
I think it depends on the surname. If it’s common ([name]James[/name], [name]Smith[/name], [name]Garcia[/name], etc) then it wouldn’t bother me to meet a little [name]Will[/name] [name]Smith[/name] or [name]Andy[/name] [name]Garcia[/name]. If it’s an uncommon surname and the parents choose the fn of a celeb then I figure it’s intentional. As much as I love [name]Tallulah[/name], if I happen to marry a man with the ln Bankhead, no way would I use it
I went to a presentation for school, and one of the girls was named [name]Jennifer[/name] Lopez. We all just laughed about it really quick, but after that nobody really cared.
Afraid I wouldn’t - I love the name [name]Hugh[/name], but have nixed it because our last name is [name]Grant[/name]… And have also crossed the fantastic [name]Hugo[/name] off the list too because I think it is too close to [name]Hugh[/name]…
I know a [name]Julia[/name] [name]Roberts[/name], and I don’t think her name has ever bothered her (both are pretty common names, anyhow, and when she was born, the actress wasn’t yet famous). But, I don’t think I’d consider it, personally.
I would totally go with [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Taylor[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name] (Bewitched.) [name]Jacqueline[/name] [name]Kennedy[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn, and [name]Grace[/name] [name]Kelly[/name], I would all use. Guess the morale is~ they are all dead. A living and particularly young celebrity I would watch out. Of course my mom went to school with a [name]Meg[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] and I knew a [name]Misha[/name] [name]Barton[/name]. Neither of the them were the famous ones but then the famous ones weren’t famous when these people we knew were born. If your last name is common, it could happen anyway. Good [name]Luck[/name]!
