[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone
Our favourite boys name has always been [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] as a nn for [name_m]Alfred[/name_m].
My oh’s cousin had a baby a few months ago and named him [name_u]Freddy[/name_u].
Can we still use it?
We only see them at family gatherings and they have a different surname
Thank you!!
Yes I think that you can use then because [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] and [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] are two different names. You would name your child [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] with the nn [name_u]Freddy[/name_u]. I don’t think that it would be problem. I would be safe though and talk and ask about it with your cousin. But you can name your child, especially if this has been your favorite name like forever. [name_m]Just[/name_m] go with your heart. Name him whatever you want. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
You should definitely use the name if you love it! As a PP pointed out, [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] with the nn [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] is different than just using [name_u]Freddy[/name_u]. Plus, not seeing them often is another bonus. I’m sure if they had heard you were planning on using the name [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] nn [name_u]Freddy[/name_u], they wouldn’t have hesitated to still use [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] on their LO.
Thank you. My oh has been sulking that ‘[name_u]Freddy[/name_u] has been taken’ so I think this would work well
