Same number of letters?

I’m sure this has been asked time and again, so sorry for being redundant!

I’ve always been a numbers person, so I love patterns and trends in sibling names. I love the cohesive look of all the names of the siblings having the same amount of letters and syllables. Is that silly, or an acceptable type of trend?

Silly to me. I am fine with the one letter trend – I find it cute, actually! But the same length? Taking it too far.

I don’t think it’s silly. It’s a subtle pattern that most people don’t appreciate. Naming styles are so personal that you dictate what is acceptable to you. Everyone has quirks that seem ‘weird’ to others. It might be hard to set that trend for your own sibset, but fun to try!

My DH, DD and I all have two-syllable names. My name is 5 letters, DH’s is 7 letters and DD’s is 7 letters. We didn’t set out for that, but I find it super interesting and might try for a two syllable 5 letter name for our next child.

one of my favorite name themes is names with 6 letters and 2 syllables.

I do this too! I just love it when sibling (first) names have the same number of letters. My main list consists of mainly 7 letter names (with 5 exceptions out of 82), and then my other favourites are arranged by length too. I’m not so fussed about syllables, but I definitely get where you’re coming from, not silly at all in my opinion (although my friends think I’m crazy), it actually helps keep my faves under control a bit.

I have a “thing” about length of a FULL name.

I don’t necessarily need to have the same number of letters in a name, but I like the full names to be the same or similar length, I wouldn’t be able to give one child a really long full name, and the other a short one.

I think part of it stems from the fact that my brothers, sister and I all have names of similar length (when you write them out).

[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] W*********
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] W*********
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] W*********
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] W*********

There are a different number of letters, but none of the names are particularly longer/shorter than the others, so they just look right together.

NB: My sister and I have the same number of letters in our FN + MN combinations. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has one letter more than [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], so my parents used the [name_f]Ann[/name_f] spelling for her middle name, even though they preferred the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] spelling. My mom actually though, if I ever noticed, it might upset me!

I don’t think I’d ever be able to have a sibling set like…

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] W*********
[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] W*********
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] W*********
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] W*********

No, no, no!

I think this might be naming OCD!

I’m completely obsessed with find the perfect 4 letter name to go with my son [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Leda[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_u]Reid[/name_u], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], etcetera etcetera! So either it’s fine, or we’re both crazy.
