Samson vs Sampson

Hey berries,

I really adore the name [name_m]Samson[/name_m]. Especially since my husband and I kind of came up with it together. He liked the name [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u]. I like the nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u], but not so much [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. So we kind of agreed [name_m]Samson[/name_m] is a good name to consider if we were to have a boy.

But, I see [name_m]Samson[/name_m] spelled [name_m]Sampson[/name_m], as well. I was just trying to get a feel for what the more favorable spelling is. I’m not a big fan of creative spelling with it comes to names. I like to stick with the classic and most original spelling.

What do you think?

Also, is there any other names you can think of where you can get the nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u] from?

I prefer [name_m]Samson[/name_m] 100%. The p isn’t really needed and I think it makes the name less attractive. Also [name_m]Sampson[/name_m] makes me think of the Simpsons.

[name_m]Samson[/name_m] is the nicest. Good choice!

I prefer [name_m]Sampson[/name_m] because [name_m]Samson[/name_m] reminds me of Samsung.

I also prefer [name_m]Samson[/name_m]. I love [name_u]Sam[/name_u] too! I think it could stand on its own.

I prefer [name_m]Samson[/name_m].

I think [name_m]Samson[/name_m] looks nicer. It’s also the biblical spelling, if that would be a factor for you.

[name_m]Sampson[/name_m] just feels like a surname to me. It would feel out of place as a first.

I much prefer [name_m]Samson[/name_m].

Good point. I could definitely see how that could easily ruin the name [name_m]Sampson[/name_m] for someone lol.

Everyone, great opinions… thank you for your thoughts! Looks like [name_m]Samson[/name_m] is more favorable. I think I like the looks of this spelling more, but I find myself wanting to emphasis a “P” when I say [name_m]Samson[/name_m] lol. Like [name_m]SamPson[/name_m]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I know it’s basically silent in the spelling that includes the P.
