So, my husband and I have been discussing names for our boys today. We have, thus far, agreed on the names [name_u]Dean[/name_u] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] ([name_u]Sam[/name_u] for short) for them. It was brought to my attention by my younger sister, who I spoke to earlier about the names, that there are two brothers from a popular TV show with those names. Supernatural, I believe? Anyway, we really like both of these names and can easily see them fitting in with our oldest son, [name_m]Will[/name_m]. [name_u]Sam[/name_u], [name_u]Dean[/name_u], and [name_m]Will[/name_m] sounds lovely to us, but we are unsure now because of this affiliation.
These names are by no means definite; we just found two that we agree on and are trying to work with them. [name_m]How[/name_m] popular is this show Supernatural? I I were to introduce my two boys once they are born, would someone automatically say something like “oh, like those brothers from Supernatural?”
Should we reconsider names?
Our last name starts with “C,” ends with “S,” and is two syllables.
Thank you, and God bless!
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f], [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Will[/name_m], Pumpkin Head, and Pumpkin Butt ([name_m]Will[/name_m]'s nicknames for his baby brothers)
I don’t think it’s an issue at all, especially since you have other children. Supernatural is more of a cult show, and it’s been on a downhill slide for a few years. It’s not nearly as popular as it used to be.
I’ve never watched the show, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I heard “[name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u]”. And I would assume that’s where you got the names for your boys, because it has been running for like a decade already and has a lot of hardcore fans.
I love Supernatural! It is no where near dying out. [name_f]Season[/name_f] 12 starts this [name_f]October[/name_f]! It is becoming even more popular since the actors and actresses are speaking out about mental illnesses and raising funds and awareness for numerous charities. Good strong names but I think they will be definitely associated with Supernatural.
I don’t think it’s a problem (I recognised the brothers from Supernatural’s names when you said them, but I wouldn’t have been able to tell you what they were before that, if that makes any sense?) Particularly since you already have a child with an unrelated name And I am from the generation that Supernatural seems to be aimed at. I think [name_u]Sam[/name_u], [name_u]Dean[/name_u] and [name_m]Will[/name_m] sounds great
Although the three names sound lovely together, it is the first thing I thought of when I saw the title, and I have never even seen ‘supernatural’ unfortunately you might have to give it a miss
They’re great names! I made the connection to Supernatural, but I don’t think it’s a big deal. Use 'em if you love 'em. Fans of the show will get a kick out of your random choice of the names, and that’s all. Everyone else - including you, most importantly - will just think of your boys.
I’ve never watched the show, but the first thing I thought of was “[name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u]” Winchester. I wouldn’t necessarily assume it’s from the show per se, but I’d probably have said something like “oh like the show!”
Well, it is a pretty popular show and even people who don’t watch it but are culturally conscious will likely make the connection. However [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u] are also very classic, timeless names that have been used in all different kinds of contexts, so it’s not like they are inextricably associated with that one show. I think it’s totally up to whether you personally would be bothered by people occasionally (more than occasionally? it depends on the kind of social circles you and your sons will be in) mentioning the connection and having to explain that you didn’t intend to reference the characters. [name_m]Will[/name_m], [name_u]Sam[/name_u], and [name_u]Dean[/name_u] are great as brothers
Here’s a tip- in Supernatural the older one is [name_u]Dean[/name_u] and the younger one is [name_u]Sam[/name_u], so if you switch it, it might soften the connection. Although it may not be relevant enough with twins to make a difference.
