Sasha - boy or girl's name?

We are expecting a girl this summer and like the name [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] (on it’s own, not a nickname), however it seems to be more unisex than I realized. I think of it more strictly as a girl’s name in the US. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you all think of it as a boy’s name or girl’s name?

I’d think boy.

I like it on girl but I think it’s absolutely stunning on a little boy especially as a nn. So I would vote for a boy.

we have a girl and a boy [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] in our family.

But for me it is more girl.

You realize that both names and gender are socially constructed, right? you’re going to get a different answer from everyone on this.

In my mind [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is one of the most “unisex” names out there. I could see it on a boy or a girl. You and your child will probably meet both girl and boy [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]'s. I don’t know why that would bother you.

I think that naming a girl [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is particularly socially acceptable at the moment because of [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] ([name_f]Natasha[/name_f]) [name_m]Obama[/name_m].

Technically, it’s a unisex name but it’s probably more prevalent on the girls side in [name_u]America[/name_u]. In places like [name_f]Russia[/name_f], it would be more popular for boys.

For me [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is more boy.

I think girl if living in the USA, otherwise boy. It was a boy name I liked, but I just could not do that to my child since we live the US and [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] has been turned female here.

I know both female and male [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]'s. It’s my understanding that [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] and Sacsha are more masculine, while [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is the westernized, predominantly female version.

The only [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] I know is a girl. I didn’t even know it was used for boys until recently.

I live in the US and I definitely think girl, although it’s a very cute nn for a boy.

In Germany I’ve only heard it used on boys and because of this I think of it as a boys name. I never met a [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] in the States boy or girl so I can’t say how it is there.

spelled [name_u]Sascha[/name_u] I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it on a boy, but [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is a girl name for me

Hmm…

I do think of [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] as unisex; I know girl [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]'s and boy [name_u]Sacha[/name_u]/[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]'s. I do associate girls being [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] and boys being [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] (same pro. different spelling) I think [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] feels more masculine in comparison to [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] which does have a more unisex flair. Furthermore I would tend to make my mind up on what I believe is [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]'s gender when I look at the surname. This may sound awful but [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is common for a boy in European (mainly Eastern) countries and [name_f]Russia[/name_f] therefore if the surname was Krokowsky or Wronka I would assume [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] was a boy whereas if the surname was [name_m]Smith[/name_m] I’d assume a girl. I do feel when it comes to [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]'s gender it depends on the person’s culture as to whether it’s a girls name or boys. However even though I do deem [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] unisex I prefer this choice on a boy and actually dislike this name for a girl. Nevertheless, if you like it go for it!!

Congrats : )

I tend to think of it more of a boy’s name but it’s thoroughly unisex [name_f]IMO[/name_f] – isn’t one of [name_m]Obama[/name_m]'s daughters called [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]?

Definitely girl. It has a very feminine sound to it.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] this name!

I see it as more of a girl name. Perhaps, because I grew up with Bratz dolls haha, anyway I really like it!
This spelling seems more feminine to me with [name_u]Sacha[/name_u]/[name_u]Sascha[/name_u] being the masculine form. If you live in Europe or [name_f]Russia[/name_f] etc I’d say leave it for the boys, but if you live in the States or Australia etc i’d think it’d be more common for girls

I’ve never heard of [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] being used on a boy. I think it’s a lovely name for a girl though.

I know it’s originally a boys’ name, but for a boy I’d go with [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] or [name_u]Sascha[/name_u].

[name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is my guilty pleasure for a girls’ name, I have to admit. Kind of love it.
