My husband and I are considering [name]Sawyer[/name], [name]Weston[/name], and [name]Everett[/name] as names for our baby boy. I love all 3 names, but we have some concerns about each one. I would appreciate your thoughts.
[name]Sawyer[/name]: No nickname that I can think of. I’m really hoping that he won’t be called “Soy”. Can you think of any nicknames that people will give to him?
[name]Weston[/name]: Our last name looks like this _estell. So both names have the “est” in them. I’m thinking that this may sound funny, especially when we call him “[name]West[/name]”. Thoughts?
[name]Everett[/name]: [name]Love[/name] the name but I find it kind of hard to say and not very flowy- Ev/er/ett. Thoughts?
I love all three of your names. For [name]Sawyer[/name] I think he will probably end up with a nick name that has nothing to do with [name]Sawyer[/name] such as “buddy” or “bubba”. What do you think about using [name]Easton[/name] instead of [name]Weston[/name] to avoid overusage of the “est” sound? I don’t find [name]Everett[/name] to be difficult to pronounce at all and in fact this is my favorite of the three. Good luck!
[QUOTE=tarababy;1574191]My husband and I are considering [name]Sawyer[/name], [name]Weston[/name], and [name]Everett[/name] as names for our baby boy. I love all 3 names, but we have some concerns about each one. I would appreciate your thoughts.
[name]Sawyer[/name]: I love [name]Sawyer[/name], and haven’t heard of any bad nicknames. It’s my favorite of your three!
[name]Weston[/name]: Legit concern. If you don’t like the flow, don’t use it. If it doesn’t bother you, and you love [name]Weston[/name]/[name]West[/name], then it’s not horrible since it doesn’t actually rhyme.
[name]Everett[/name]: I like [name]Everett[/name] in theory, but I do think it’s a hard name to use every day. To me it’s more of a good solid middle name than something to be called.
I like [name]Weston[/name] and [name]Everett[/name]. I don’t think you should cut [name]Weston[/name] from the list for that reason, unless it is really going to bug you. If you really love and look past that, then go for it. It is a striking name.
I have [name]Everett[/name] in a combo and I think it is a great name, and I do not find it hard to say. You could call him Rett for short.
I don’t like [name]Sawyer[/name] as much as your other two, but it is also a nice name, and I don’t think he would get called Soy but I guess you never know. I wouldn’t worry about that too much though. Good luck!
[name]Weston[/name] (this is on my list too! [name]Love[/name] it. [name]Love[/name] [name]West[/name] as a nn and I wouldn’t worry about the duplicating ‘set’ sounds)
[name]Sawyer[/name] (I like the surname quality of this one. You just discourage anybody who tries to call him ‘soy’ and see what else settles for a nn)
[name]Everett[/name] (a little too finicky for a first name for me)
[name]Sawyer[/name]: This is my top choice for you. For nickname potential, would [name]Sam[/name] be too far of a stretch for you? [name]Saul[/name] is another option that sounds more like [name]Sawyer[/name]. [name]Sawyer[/name] _estell sounds very nice to me.
[name]Weston[/name]: Since your last name is _estell, [name]Weston[/name] _ estell may sound funny. I think calling him [name]West[/name] would actually be less confusing and sound less funny, but maybe that is because I don’t know the first letter of your last name.
[name]Everett[/name]: Since your last name is _estell, [name]Everett[/name] _estell could sound funny, depending on what the first letter of your last name is.
I like [name]Weston[/name] the best…even with the double ‘est’ I think it would be fine. [name]Everett[/name] is a close second. [name]Ever[/name] or Rett as a nn maybe?
I like all 3 but I’d drop [name]Weston[/name] because of your last name
[name]Love[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name]. I never had a nn so I don’t think the are important. I pronounce it saw-yer so the nn Soy wouldn’t make sense but Saw would
Most people pronounce [name]Everett[/name] as two syllables ev-rett, but even ever-rett isn’t difficult, to me at least. I like both [name]Ever[/name] and [name]Rhett[/name] as stand alone names, so [name]Everett[/name] is a great choice
I think sawyer has gone to the girls
[name]Everett[/name] I say like Ev-rett, making it less flowy. [name]Love[/name] the name.
[name]Weston[/name] is very nice as well.
Nearly all the Sawyers I’ve read about on name sites have been girls. I’m not sure that that actually reflects the usage of the name though. I’d want to nickname him [name]Tom[/name] LOL. : D. Not really good nickname options it’s true? Saw : D? I don’t think anyone would do that, or Soy. I don’t honestly love the name I’m afraid. On either gender. But there’s nothing wrong with it. I do think it’ll be very tied to this time period.
I like [name]Weston[/name]. [name]Wesley[/name] nn [name]Wes[/name] instead to avoid the est? But I don’t think the est is such a big deal. Liked the other poster’s suggestion of [name]Easton[/name], too. [name]Wesley[/name] to me is more timeless, but also sort of softer, and if you prefer a stronger name I’d understand.
I love [name]Everett[/name]. I also don’t find it hard to say, think it has good flow. You could consider [name]Evan[/name], [name]Emmett[/name], or [name]Elliott[/name].
In general all of these are surnamey so if you’re feeling like you need more options you could scroll through NB’s many surname lists.
[name]Weston[/name] is my favorite and I don’t see any issues of it flowing with your last name. That’s my pick, hands down. I love that he can go by just [name]West[/name] as well if he chooses.
[name]Everett[/name] is my second pick. I pronounce it Ev-rett. It’s a very handsome name as well.
[name]Sawyer[/name] is SO popular these days. A couple of my friends have [name]Sawyer[/name]'s. I can’t think of a nn for it either. My friend’s little boy gets called “Saw Saw,” much to her dismay. She hates it. And some people say SAW-yer and some say SOY-yer.
