Is it one or two syllables?
I kind of like it - it has an interesting look and I think it could grown on me
[name_m]How[/name_m] is it pronounced? I’m intrigued.
I live in the US, and the spelling [name_m]Sayer[/name_m] looks better to me, although I would guess that some cultures would be more used to the -re ending. I’m pronouncing it phonetically ([name_m]SAY[/name_m]-err) and its similar sounds to names like [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], and [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] make it seem more familiar even though I have never seen this name before.
Yes, I pronounce it with two syllables, [name_m]SAY[/name_m]-err. I do think the [name_m]Sayre[/name_m] spelling could encourage a slightly different pronunciation, more like SAIR.
I am familiar with a very similar name from one tiny branch of my family tree.
[name_f]Saher[/name_f].
It is interesting to see very old names come up again. I have always pronounced it Sa-err. I would never have made the connection to [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]. Very unusual name in any spelling [name_f]Saher[/name_f], [name_m]Sayre[/name_m], or [name_m]Sayer[/name_m]. However, for obvious reasons, I like [name_f]Saher[/name_f].
[name_m]Sayre[/name_m] is most intuitive for me since there is a local school called [name_m]Sayre[/name_m] School. I also feel like [name_m]Sayre[/name_m] looks more “namey” than [name_m]Sayer[/name_m].
To my American eyes, [name_m]Sayer[/name_m] looks better. I like it. It fits in with the current trends but is unexpected and stylish.
I think [name_m]Sayre[/name_m] is the more beautiful and name-y spelling, and like another poster said it feels more like one syllable. I prefer that option. Nice name!
However I did vote for [name_m]Sayer[/name_m] in terms of [name_m]IRL[/name_m] usage in the US/[name_f]Canada[/name_f] - feels more likely to be pronounced “correctly” if you prefer with 2 syllables.
I could see both working.
I love it! It’s a family name for me. I think [name_m]Sayer[/name_m] will have the better chance of being pronounced correctly
[name_m]Sayre[/name_m] is one syllable like star but with A in the middle there that says A and no t but it’s [name_m]Say[/name_m] with an r like Sar or Ser prefixes on various names… Issues would be people asking how to say it…
[name_m]Sayer[/name_m] is say-er so 2 syllables.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is also 2 syllables and sawy almost like soy -er
I like the [name_m]Tom[/name_m] connection but prefer [name_m]Sayer[/name_m] of the 3.
[name_m]Sayer[/name_m] or an alternate I also like [name_m]Thayer[/name_m]
