My husband and I are trying to find a baby name for baby #1 but we are having the hardest time with boys names! We are teachers so we have too many associations with most names in the US, even the newer less-common ones. We are pretty connected to our heritage and have a lot of love for more rare (to the US) European names! Girl names we have picked out are ones like [name_f]Maren[/name_f] and [name_f]Sonja[/name_f] and [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]. Scandinavian/[name_m]German[/name_m] but not as obvious as ones like [name_f]Freja[/name_f]/[name_f]Astrid[/name_f].
We like [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] and [name_m]Soren[/name_m] and [name_m]Anders[/name_m] but I’m just not sold yet… Seems to really have an obvious “theme” if we do those. Husband also loves [name_m]Ivor[/name_m]/[name_m]Iver[/name_m] pronounced EYE-ver. Thoughts on that? And my main question is - what boy names fit the bill?
I really like [name_m]Iver[/name_m]/[name_m]Ivor[/name_m] and [name_m]Soren[/name_m].
I don’t think you have any obvious theme going with the considerations you currently have either. [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] and [name_m]Anders[/name_m] if used for brothers maybe, but otherwise I don’t think there’s an obvious pattern there.
I like [name_m]Soren[/name_m] and [name_m]Anders[/name_m] a lot! I wouldnt say they’re too themed
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m] is brilliant! I like it a lot
Great suggestions everyone! I do like [name_m]Anders[/name_m]. My only question there is how to pronounce it here… I know in the US many people pronounce it like [name_f]ANN[/name_f]-ders which is technically wrong, but I don’t know if I was my kid constantly trying to correct it to AHN-ders. Thoughts? I do like [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] a lot, just don’t want them to be called [name_m]Rick[/name_m]. [name_m]Soren[/name_m] I like but I’m not sold on.
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is nice! [name_m]Just[/name_m] wondered if it was too trendy/hipster in the US? Other suggestions here that I liked were [name_m]Emrys[/name_m], [name_m]Callan[/name_m], and [name_m]Ansel[/name_m], and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. A few husband vetoed, and some sound odd with our last name. Oh the frustration!
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m]/[name_m]Iver[/name_m] is one we keep coming back to… I’m concerned it brings too many viking thoughts to people? That’s why I ws unsure what spelling to use.
[name_m]Henrik[/name_m] - I love this! It’s strong and masculine - unique yet recognisable.
[name_m]Soren[/name_m] - I love this too! It’s much softer sounding than [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] and more unique, but even though it’s a different style, I adore it. It’s very sweet.
[name_m]Anders[/name_m] - I don’t mind this, but it does feel like a last name to me, probably because I watch Dynasty! I do love [name_m]Ander[/name_m] as an alternate.
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m]/[name_m]Iver[/name_m] - I feel like the spelling of [name_m]Ivor[/name_m] is more strong and masculine ([name_m]Henrik[/name_m] vibes), while [name_m]Iver[/name_m] is softer and a little sweeter (more [name_m]Soren[/name_m] vibes) so it depends what you’re going for! Sounds awesome though.
I like [name_m]Anders[/name_m] a lot, but if you are worried about the [name_f]ANN[/name_f] pronunciation, you could go with [name_u]Andre[/name_u] which would get the AHN pronunciation
