Scarlett with a red headed sister?

Our second daughter is due in [name]June[/name]. We’ve tentatively decided on the name [name]Scarlett[/name] (nn [name]Scout[/name]). Her older sister, [name]Lily[/name] [name]Hope[/name], has bright red hair. There’s a decent chance this baby girl with be a red head too. However, if she’s not a redhead, my husband thinks it would be strange to have a non-red headed child named [name]Scarlett[/name], when her older sister would be would be more suited for that name. What do you think? Would it be odd for a blond or brown haired baby to be named [name]Scarlett[/name] when her sister is the one with the bright red hair?

Thanks!

I don’t think it would be weird. I don’t associate the name [name]Scarlett[/name] with red hair at all.

I don’t think it would be strange to use [name]Scarlett[/name] on a child that doesn’t have red hair. [name]Scarlett[/name] is becoming a somewhat common name, and considering how rare red heads are, I can almost guarantee you that most don’t have red hair.

I don’t know if I would ever use [name]Scarlett[/name] for a red headed child, for the same reasons that I wouldn’t use [name]Ginger[/name] on a red head. I don’t know. I am kind of torn on this issue. My hubby is a red head and if we ever have a daughter with red hair, we were planning on naming her [name]Rowan[/name]. [name]Rowan[/name] seems more subtlety linked to the color red, than [name]Scarlett[/name] does. [name]Scarlett[/name] might be a little too obvious?

My sister [name]Erin[/name] has red hair and my other sister is called [name]Scarlet[/name], I don’t think anyone has ever said anything about it! I wouldn’t worry about that at all!
Although I’ve never heard of a [name]Scarlet[/name] being called [name]Scout[/name], we call ours Scarly or [name]Carl[/name], [name]Carl[/name] is more of a family joke though!

By the way, our [name]Scarlet[/name] has very long blonde hair.

Hmm…
For me no it wouldn’t be strange yes [name]Scarlett[/name] means red and the colour is obviously red but honestly I don’t actually associate the name ‘[name]Scarlett[/name]’ with the colour red. Instead I associate the name with Gone with the Wind and the actress [name]Scarlett[/name] Johansson who isn’t a red-head. The fact that [name]Lily[/name] [name]Hope[/name] is a red-head doesn’t really come into it. Its like saying you can’t name your daughter [name]Sienna[/name] which means earth colours (reddish-brown) if your oldest daughter ‘[name]Claire[/name]’ (for example) is auburn in hair colour it just doesn’t make sense.
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Lily[/name] [name]Hope[/name] work nicely together! Go for it!

I don’t think it’s weird at all. [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Lily[/name] are a great sibset and I say go for it.

Off topic but… ooh, hello fellow citizen

I actually know a girl called [name]Scarlett[/name] with brown hair, who has a little sister with red hair. That being said, her sister’s name is [name]Ruby[/name]. I’ve never thought it was particularly weird, but I definitely see what you mean. I don’t think many people would even notice though.

Yay! Not met anyone else on here from Liverpool!

Honestly, I think about dark, dark brown hair instead of red.

The only [name]Scarlett[/name] I know has brown hair. I don’t think it will be weird at all.

I associate [name]Scarlett[/name] with a fiery personality, not red hair. All [name]Scarlett[/name]'s I’ve met are either blonde or dark brunette.
