Scarlett

If my last name is [name_m]Hanson[/name_m], would it be a terrible idea to name a daughter [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]?

Not at all! [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]'s a lovely name! Who you have a middle name as well?

We will likely be honoring a [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Sue[/name_f] with the middle name, so maybe [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]… haven’t come up with a finalist yet

I adore [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] or [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] are gorgeous (not too fond of the double ‘t’ ending in [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]). I love the nickname [name_f]Lettie[/name_f].

Your surname is pretty close to Johanson, but if you really love it you should use it. I wouldn’t use it if my last name was [name_m]Hanson[/name_m], but then again I’m not in love with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. If it feels right, then don’t let a celebrity stop you.

It didn’t immediately occur to me that that you were worried about [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Johansson so I vote that you go for it.

I like the combo [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_m]Hanson[/name_m].

I say go for it. I don’t think the similarity overall is a problem, and it took me a second to figure out what you meant by your question so that’s good!

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] would be my second choice.

At first when I read your post I thought “What’s wrong with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_m]Hanson[/name_m]?”. It didn’t sound off and I couldnt think of some horrible association. Then I scrolled down and saw one of the commenters mentioned that it sounds similar to [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Johansson. Which I guess was your concern. And while I admit that it does sound similar…I didn’t even pick up on it straight away. Perhaps you will run into more people who wouldn’t notice it.

I used to [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], but now I can’t get past that harsh first syllable. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_m]Hanson[/name_m] sounds fine, nonetheless.

I love [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]- spunky, playful, dramatic, and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] O’[name_f]Hara[/name_f] is one of my favourite characters despite all her flaws. I don’t think [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_m]Hanson[/name_m] is a problem- if you hadn’t asked, I don’t think I would have found anything (when people ask if there’s something wrong with a name, I start assuming there is). You could use a double name like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] though which would make it even less noticeable.

No problem! Like others, I didn’t even notice the similarity to the celebrity’s name until it was pointed out. [name_m]Even[/name_m] with the similarities, I don’t think there is anything wrong with it.

Thanks everyone! I’m glad it didn’t even occur to some of you! When I mentioned it to my husband, the first thing out of his mouth was, “You mean like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Johansson?” !!! We’ll see if I can do some further convincing

I think it’s a great name- very spunky.
I did think of the [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Johansson immediately- BUT it wasn’t a negative link.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t use [name_u]Jo[/name_u] as the middle name

I don’t think it’s a problem at all!! I didn’t even make the connection, actually. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_m]Hanson[/name_m] has my vote!!

I think it is a lovely name, although where I live it is becoming a bit popular. I have never understood why and extra “t” is put on the end of the name, does anyone know?

I agree I think you should go for it. If you love the name then why not

I agree…
