Scarlett

So, a little background. We have a beautfiul 8 month old little boy named [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] ([name_u]Jem[/name_u] for short). We will be TTC this summer/fall.

I was thinking this morning how i really liked [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] if we have a girl. [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] (to kill a mockingbird is my favorite book.) Is that a little overboard, or is it cute?

I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. ([name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is a family name)

[name_u]Jameson[/name_u] seems so versatile to me (he could be a writer, a surfer, an accoutant, and the name fits!)

But I cant see a little surfer/beach bum names [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. I cant see a tom boy. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a girly girl. Maybe the nickname [name_u]Scout[/name_u] or Scar would fix that?

So…

  1. I need to know if [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] is overboard or perfect.

  2. I need help being able to picture [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] on a little girl (a baby in particular… [name_m]Just[/name_m] cant picture it) and to know it is versatile!

anyone have any words of advice?

I like it! I haven’t read To Kill a Mockingbird (I know, I ought to) so I don’t make the [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] connection, but if I had have read it, I would find it cute. I can also see [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] on a surfer girl, an accountant and a tom boy. I think it’s as versatile as [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], with the nicknames of [name_u]Scout[/name_u] and Scar helping it be so versatile.

My sister had [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] as a possible name for her baby, but he ended up being a boy. I like it! [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] was on my list once (but I took the combo off as I decided against honouring a [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] remains as a mn) and I love it.

My sister’s youngest is named [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] I love the name.

We actually had planned on calling her [name_u]Scout[/name_u] or [name_u]Scottie[/name_u] (in honor of my dad), but as she’s gotten older and is starting to grow into her personality, we find that we mostly call her Scar or occasionally [name_f]Lettie[/name_f].

She’s still young, so it’s hard to tell whether she’ll be a girly girl or tomboy, be shy or outgoing, etc. But I think between [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]/[name_u]Scout[/name_u]/[name_u]Scottie[/name_u]/Scar/[name_f]Lettie[/name_f], she’s got plenty of options.

My only concern for you is that [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] together on siblings seems a bit much.

Thanks!

So one says it is too much and another thinks its cute! Could i get a few more opinions?

I think it’s waaaaaay too much. It’s bookends, a matched set, etc.

But I do think [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is a good stylistic match for [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and actually (Miss O’[name_f]Hara[/name_f] aside) sounds more tough and rugged than feminissima. I think it’s quite flexible.

Thanks, blade!

I posted about this back in the TTC thread, and got the suggestion of using [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]. I really like those together as nicknames, and i think [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] are a perfect pair as is.

Now that we have a girls name we love, im sure we will end up with a boy!

I agree with [name_m]Blade[/name_m] that [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] are a bit much but I really like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. Theres a baby [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] in the family and she goes by her full name. I think [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is pretty and not overly feminine. I think [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] works as a nickname. I’ve also heard [name_f]Carly[/name_f] used as a nickname for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].

I love [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]!
I would suggest maybe another last name as a first.
Cause [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is definitely a first name whilst [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] has been a last.

[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] (another nod to To Kill A mocking bird but in a subtler way I think)
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]

[name_m]Will[/name_m] you introduce them as [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u]? Or as [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]? If they’re nicknames that only you use, I don’t think its an issue. I also think they sound super adorable and if you love the names and the nicknames then go for it. Who cares if everyone knows you’re a t[name_m]KaM[/name_m] fan? Over here (Australia) it’s very rarely a prescribed school text, so people only read it if they choose to, so I doubt [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] would be picked on about it, because most people would just chuckle to themselves and appreciate your literary tastes.

I think that’s so cute!
[name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] make a great sibset!
I also like To Kill a Mockingbird.

I think [name_u]Scout[/name_u] for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is a bit of stretch but I’m sure you could make it work. As much as I love the book and the characters are good I do think that maybe it’s overkill…but that’s just for me. But it’s not like you are straight out calling them [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] so maybe it would be fine.

I do agree that when I think of the name [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] all I see is little girls in dresses and flowers and sparkles but the nicknames allow for personalities:
[name_u]Scout[/name_u] - if you did use [name_u]Scout[/name_u] I think it’s a nice middle ground kind of nickname, you could use it on a girly girl and a tomboy.
Scar - slightly more edgy and whilst I know a very girly girl with the nickname Scar it does have more of a rougher feel to it which could be perfect for tomboys.
[name_f]Lettie[/name_f] - much more girly and sweet.

I do think [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] can work on anybody though, everybody wears a name differently.
