Scotlyn?

Hey all,
I’m really into unique girl names. I feel like girls need a little more individuality than boys do. I came across the name Scotlyn and instantly fell in love. I don’t like that it’s made up and doesn’t really have a meaning but I love the way it sounds plus I quite like [name_f]Scotland[/name_f].
What do y’all think? Is it unusable?
For middle names I think I like Scotlyn [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]. None of the other names on my list got with Scotlyn so what would you make her middle name?
[name_f]TIA[/name_f],
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]

Scotlyn is quite nice as is [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]. I think I might prefer Scotlyn a little.
Scotlyn [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is a great combo - it has a sweet, frilly sound that brings balance to the name.

I’d also suggest:
Scotlyn [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
Scotlyn [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
Scotlyn [name_f]Maia[/name_f]
Scotlyn [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
Scotlyn [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
Scotlyn [name_f]Aimee[/name_f]
Scotlyn [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
Scotlyn [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]

Scotlyn feels a bit trendy and like a guilty pleasure name, but I think I quite like it, it’s very pretty. I think I would personally prefer [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]. But as I said it’s beautiful, and I do think it’s usable.

Scotlyn [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] flows better than [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] Primeose in my opinion

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestions from previous Poster

I love the flow of Scotlyn [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. Thank y’all for ur opinions!

I’ve over heard this name on a bus a couple years ago. Not sure if I heard it as Scotlyn or [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] though… but it was a group of university students talking about their friend they were about to see.

Definitely usable, imo. Scotlyn [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is lovely.

Scotlyn is trendy and made up sounding to me. It doesn’t sound like a name that would age well either if that makes any sense.

I feel like if it were a name I heard out loud and never had to see written, I’d like it a lot more. Seems super trendy, though, which isn’t my personal taste. But, from your signature, it looks like we’d never agree on a name. Besides your idea for twin boys. Those sound super badass and cool as hell.

The more I think about it, Scotlyn sounds very forced. What about just [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]?

@papaya
Thank you! I adore [name_m]Finian[/name_m] and [name_m]Killian[/name_m] and agree they are super badass, that’s why I love them so much.

I feel this way as well. [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] is much cooler and has real character.

I see the appeal for you. I think I’m a little put off because this is the style that I would have used in my early twenties. Now my tastes have evolved. That said:
[name_u]Scottie[/name_u] is cute. Maybe a little bit too cutesy, but I can see an adult [name_u]Scottie[/name_u] over a [name_f]Scotland[/name_f].
[name_f]Scotland[/name_f]- this is a sturdy name that doesn’t feel made up. Although the D at the end does feel masculine for me. There is English [name_u]Gardner[/name_u] the Olympic track star and I’ve heard Irish on a girl and that was cute, so I can see [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] working, just feels a little masculine for me
Scotlyn is the most girly for me, which could be why it appeals. It’s certainly usable as it’s not like [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] looks made up ans not my style

I really dislike Scotlyn. It’s very trendy and I don’t think a pleasant sound should be enough to make up for a name’s lack of substance. I don’t find it feminine or pretty, so I have a hard time picturing it on a little girl, young adult, or grown woman.

Not a fan of Scotlyn, but I do like [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] a lot!

I second a preference for [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]. Not that I would ever use it here in the U.K, but Scotlyn sounds very forced

[name_f]Scotland[/name_f] is definitely the better of the two, however, I must admit, I’d assume the parents had at least visited [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] or perhaps have important Scottish ancestors, and just have a special connection to the country in general.

I can’t say I like Scotlyn at all myself. It seems like a smoosh of [name_m]Scott[/name_m] & [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], and unless little Scotlyn was named for two people with those names, I’d find it rather trendy (as most -lyn names have come to be). Individually [name_m]Scott[/name_m] and [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] are really dated too, so I feel both a dated, and a trendy vibe come from Scotlyn which is a little odd.

I’d rather go for [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]. Scotlyn looks made up and that’s a big turn off right away for me. While [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] might be very unusual, I think it fits in nicely with names like [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], [name_u]Holland[/name_u] and so on.

I think Scotlyn is awful to be perfectly frank. I don’t see it aging well, and it strikes me as the type of name you’d hear on a teen mom’s kid. I don’t really care for [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] either but vastly prefer it to Scotlyn. Sorry!

@sunniva
My family does have a big connection to [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] and played a large role in my moms life. So I would name my daughter [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] in order to honor my mom.

I don’t love it, but like others have mentioned [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] is better than Scotlyn. The nickname [name_u]Scout[/name_u] would make it more appealing for me personally.

I really love [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], especially after knowing your connection to the actual country. In the vibe of Scotlyn, though, have you considered [name_f]Locklyn[/name_f]? Seems less “made up” than Scotlyn, because it sounds like [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], or at least it does to me the way I pronounce it…and there’s the [name_m]Loch[/name_m] connotation which is truly Scottish.
[name_f]Locklyn[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is really pretty!

In that case, [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] is definitely the better option, and would work for you. Personally, I would prefer [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] in the middle, though as a first, I second the suggestion of nickname [name_u]Scout[/name_u], which is really nice.

My fourth grade teacher’s name was [name_f]Scotia[/name_f] (sko-shuh - long O), a Latin name for [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]. Perhaps you might like [name_f]Scotia[/name_f]? [name_f]Scotia[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] sounds pretty great!
