Scottish Girls Names?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,
I really need some help finding Scottish girls name but all I can think of is [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]!
Can any of you guys please help me?

Behind the Name is a good place to start:

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] also arose in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], but for some reason aren’t listed as such on Behind the Name.

I should add that [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] is rarely given to girls in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f].

Well, I wouldn’t say that [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] is a Scottish girls’ name, it’s a surname directly indicating maleness. As a girls’ name it has a decidedly American feel.

Try [=feminine&type_usage=1&operator_usage=&value_usage[]=scottish"]this site](All Names - Behind the Name[).

These are some nice ones:

[name_f]Catrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Finola[/name_f]
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Mairead[/name_f]
[name_f]Maura[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhona[/name_f]

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: Oops, we linked to the same site! It is the best site, though.

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] are my faves. I also like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f], and [name_f]Iona[/name_f].

My favorite would be [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Merida[/name_f] & [name_f]Iona[/name_f].

[name_f]Ailsa[/name_f], [name_f]Fenella[/name_f], [name_f]Finola[/name_f] (though I prefer [name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f]), [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Malvina[/name_f] are my own favourites.

I love [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f], [name_f]Fenella[/name_f], [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f], Donella, [name_f]Edna[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_m]Innes[/name_m], [name_u]Jean[/name_u], [name_u]Jessie[/name_u], [name_f]Kirsty[/name_f], [name_f]Lileas[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Moira[/name_f] and [name_f]Una[/name_f].

Loads of my favourites suggested already ([name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], [name_f]Una[/name_f], [name_f]Fenella[/name_f], [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f]) There’s also loads of Scottish place names I think are usable (besides [name_f]Isla[/name_f]/[name_f]Ailsa[/name_f]/[name_f]Iona[/name_f]) which could make more modern-sounding names;

[name_u]Skye[/name_u]
Kintyre
Ness
[name_f]Afton[/name_f]
[name_m]Harris[/name_m]
[name_m]Stirling[/name_m]
[name_m]Galloway[/name_m]
Vaila
[name_f]Alba[/name_f] (the Scottish-Gaelic word for [name_f]Scotland[/name_f])

There’s a couple of rarer ones I haven’t seen yet; [name_f]Ealasaid[/name_f] (ee-lah-sayd), [name_f]Morag[/name_f], [name_f]Iseabail[/name_f] (Gaelic spelling of [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f]), [name_f]Eithne[/name_f] ([name_f]Enya[/name_f]), [name_f]Sheena[/name_f]/Siona, [name_u]Nairne[/name_u] (nair-knee), Miureann (mee-rin or mee-reen), [name_f]Miren[/name_f] and variations. [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is a Scottish surname.

Not necessarily Scottish in origin but [name_f]Jamesina[/name_f], [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] (and [name_f]Effy[/name_f]!), [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Davina[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] have been heavily used there. I’ve heard [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Tavia[/name_f] (from [name_m]Tavis[/name_m]) and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] suggested as Scottish too but I wouldn’t count on it.

[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] are my favourite Scottish names. My nana was named [name_m]Jamesie[/name_m] a short form of [name_f]Jamesina[/name_f] which is a Scottish name. My mummy is named [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] which is the Scottish from of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. If I met a [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] I wouldn’t think she is Scottish, it doesn’t feel Scottish to me.

I am from [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] ad I have never met a [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]. That is a surname. If I heard of a [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] I would assume they were American.

Scottish girl’s names:

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_f]Morag[/name_f] (uncommon)
[name_f]Iseabail[/name_f] (uncommon)
[name_f]Shona[/name_f] ([name_f]Shonagh[/name_f])
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] (uncommon)

I grew up in the 80s/90s and the most popular girls names at school were things like [name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
