Searching for a cute but elegant boy name....opinions please

Expecting our 2nd this summer. [name]Don[/name]'t even know if it’s a boy or a girl yet. We have one 20-month old sweet boy, [name]Christopher[/name] [name]John[/name]. “[name]John[/name]” is my late father’s name so it was a must. We don’t refer to him as [name]Chris[/name] but either [name]Christopher[/name] or “Tophie”. (my little nn)

We’re searching and trying to agree on names. Girl names were easier — think we’re settling on [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] for a girl.

We like classic, vintage and sophisticated names but wouldn’t be totally opposed with an edgier feel for a 2nd boy as long as it stays tasteful. I love [name]Teddy[/name], [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Jack[/name] and even [name]Preston[/name] but is quickly vetoed by husband. Last name is Brehme. (pronounced Brem-E")

Opinions please on the following list so far: (listing top 5)

[name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Logan[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Ryan[/name]
[name]Matteo[/name]
[name]Aiden[/name]
[name]Dillon[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Landon[/name] ?
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Will[/name]
Beethoven (kidding)

[name]Will[/name] worry about middle once I can narrow it down to one or two…thanks so much for your suggestions!

[name]Matthew[/name] - simple and classic, but nice. are there many little matthews these days, though? i wonder how common it is
[name]Logan[/name] - sooo trendy. not elegant at all. sorry :frowning:
[name]Grant[/name] - sort of boring, i think
[name]Ryan[/name] - ditto
[name]Matteo[/name] - love! this reminds me of another name i love, amadeo. a bit out there, but certainly very elegant
[name]Aiden[/name] - nice but [name]WAY[/name] too popular. in the top ten. i would avoid it.
[name]Dillon[/name] - trendy and not elegant
[name]Miles[/name] - i think it’s nice, but getting popular. i prefer milo - though i think it’s also getting pretty popular
[name]Patrick[/name] - nice and classic. goes really, really well with christopher. i hate the nn pat, though
[name]Landon[/name] ? - no
[name]Garrett[/name] - nice, i prefer gareth, though. either goes well with christopher, though, and both are elegant
[name]Will[/name] - i really like this

With the classic [name]Christopher[/name], I would choose [name]Matthew[/name], [name]Ryan[/name], [name]Miles[/name] or [name]Patrick[/name] from your list. [name]Grant[/name] would be ok but it’s a little short next to [name]Christopher[/name]. The rest are trendy in varying degrees. I wouldn’t describe any of your names as “edgy”.

Other More “Edgier, Classic, Vintage and Sophisticated” Suggestions

[name]Matthias[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Aaron[/name]
[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Darius[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]

[name]Christopher[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] are timeless classics-- like you said, elegant, classic & sophisticated.

Some of the names on your list don’t quite have the same feel. I would eliminate [name]Logan[/name] as trendy, [name]Matteo[/name] as Italianate (you have [name]Matthew[/name] already, and since you have [name]Christopher[/name] & [name]Caroline[/name], not [name]Cristoforo[/name] or [name]Carolina[/name], it doesn’t work), [name]Aiden[/name] as the mega-trendy name of our generation, and [name]Garrett[/name] as something an artist starves in. I would also lengthen [name]Will[/name] to [name]William[/name].

This leaves:

[name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Ryan[/name]
[name]Dillon[/name] (do you prefer the Welsh [name]Dylan[/name], or [name]Indian[/name] [name]Dillon[/name]?)
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Landon[/name]
[name]William[/name]

I think [name]Grant[/name] & [name]Miles[/name] are the most refreshing. They hit the right notes, but aren’t terribly common.

My favorites from your list are [name]Matthew[/name], [name]Grant[/name], [name]Miles[/name], and [name]Patrick[/name]. I also like [name]Will[/name], but I would definitely lengthen it to [name]William[/name]–at least on his birth certificate. A few other ideas that haven’t been mentioned yet:

[name]Peter[/name] (classic and timeless while being nowhere near the top of the charts)
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Jonathan[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Robert[/name] (I know the most adorable little [name]Robbi[/name])

[name]Matthew[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Grant[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] are my favorites!

From your list, I like [name]William[/name] nn [name]Will[/name], [name]Grant[/name], [name]Ryan[/name], [name]Patrick[/name] the best to go with [name]Christopher[/name] (and possibly [name]Caroline[/name]). I don’t think I have any new suggestions, but these are the ones I thought of (my naming style is very similar!):

[name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Harry[/name] (this seems spunky enough while still being classic, but if you’re looking for more spunk or a trendier choice, there’s [name]Harrison[/name])
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]David[/name]
[name]Sean[/name]/[name]Shawn[/name] (I prefer [name]Sean[/name])
[name]Timothy[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Maxwell[/name]

Good luck!!

I like [name]Teddy[/name], short for [name]Theodore[/name]. hubby said no?

What a wonderful bunch you are…thank you so much! No, unfortunately hubby nixed my favorites: [name]Teddy[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Nicholas[/name], [name]Simon[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Mason[/name]. I’m really disappointed over [name]Teddy[/name]…love that name. Naming is easy, agreeing is the not! ” l[name]OL[/name]!

We can add to the list:
[name]Curtis[/name]
[name]Colin[/name]
[name]Evan[/name]
…meh. I’m just not excited. I like [name]Patrick[/name] but am afraid of people calling him [name]Pat[/name]. We still like [name]Garrett[/name].

I think my new top five (hubby just told me to scratch [name]Miles[/name]!! :(. are:
[name]Matthew[/name] *
[name]Ryan[/name] *
[name]Grant[/name] *
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Colin[/name]
[name]Curtis[/name]

As for [name]Matteo[/name], I realize it’s more exotic than classic, [name]Christopher[/name]. What is the opinion on mixing styles of names? Is it best for me to stay with classic names to match style of [name]Christopher[/name]? I was thinking [name]Matteo[/name] is just so cute and fun.

Thanks again for the great comments. I really enjoy this site!

[name]Matteo[/name] is cute and fun, but I think it would be discordant next to [name]Christopher[/name]. [name]Matthias[/name] would be a variation on [name]Matthew[/name] that would work. Otherwise, [name]Christopher[/name] and [name]Matthew[/name] make a great sib-set.

My vote goes to [name]Ryan[/name] (among the recently-popular boy’s names it’s one of my favorites). I also like [name]Grant[/name] (my second pick from your revised list).

[name]Grant[/name] - I actually like this one. It’s not stunning but it’s a steady nice name.
[name]Landon[/name] - I like this one. I’ve only met 2 in my life and I think it’s a nice fresh name. Could use nn [name]Andy[/name]. Also, [name]Lance[/name]
[name]Garrett[/name] - I like this one a lot as well. I think this fits beautifully with [name]Christopher[/name]/[name]Topher[/name] and I love the nn Rett
[name]Will[/name] - I like [name]Will[/name] and I like [name]Liam[/name]. I could definitely see brothers [name]Christopher[/name] and [name]William[/name] called [name]Topher[/name] and [name]Liam[/name].
[name]Matthew[/name]/[name]Matteo[/name] - [name]Matthew[/name] feels a tad boring and [name]Matteo[/name] does feel quite ethnic beside [name]Christopher[/name]. Maybe a middle ground of something like [name]Matthias[/name]
[name]Logan[/name] - I’m not a big fan of this one
[name]Ryan[/name] - this doesn’t feel fresh to me, just dated. I don’t mind it as a nn to something like [name]Orion[/name] though.
[name]Dillon[/name] - this is okay, not a huge fan. [name]Darian[/name]?
[name]Colin[/name] - meh, I have a bad association with this one. Also it sounds like calling
[name]Curtis[/name] - this one just feels a tad soft to me, like [name]Elliott[/name]

[name]Matteo[/name] is definitely cute and fun and has a great sound. And I love the nn [name]Matty[/name]. I actually know a grown man nn [name]Matty[/name] and he wears it well. [name]Matteo[/name] is a great option if [name]Matthew[/name] is just a little boring for you.

To be honest, folks on here have very strong opinions of style and how names and sibsets SHOULD be, but what it really comes down to is what you love and what feels right for you. If you and your hubby love [name]Matteo[/name], go for it. In theory, sure it sounds a bit exotic next to [name]Christopher[/name], but in real life, would I question it if I met a [name]Topher[/name] and a [name]Matteo[/name]? Absolutely not. Actually, I think it sounds kind of great!

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Grant[/name]. It’s classic, refined, but still laid back. [name]Grant[/name] and [name]Christopher[/name] are great together!

[name]Ryan[/name] from your list would be my choice ( or [name]Dylan[/name] which you nixed).

Out of what you have left I would say [name]Grant[/name]. [name]Ryan[/name] and [name]Matthew[/name] seem dated in a trendy way, like they used to be trendy and now are just dated. Those were the big time names of babies born in the early 80s I think. They still work, especially [name]Matthew[/name] is timeless on a certain level, but it doesn’t have the same timelessness as [name]Christopher[/name].

[name]Curtis[/name] and [name]Garrett[/name]… I wouldn’t call either of those classic, really. Not to me. Familiar but not classic. And while [name]Christopher[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] are such lovely, pleasant names, [name]Curtis[/name] and [name]Garrett[/name] just… arent, [name]IMO[/name].

That leaves [name]Colin[/name] and [name]Grant[/name]. [name]Colin[/name] doesn’t have the gravitas of a [name]Christopher[/name] or [name]Caroline[/name], but [name]Grant[/name] does. I’d go with [name]Grant[/name]. It’s a good name.

I like [name]Matthew[/name] and will. [name]How[/name] about [name]August[/name], [name]Harrison[/name], [name]Remington[/name] or [name]Samson[/name]?

blade you have made my day with [name]Caroline[/name] (my name) and [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Grant[/name] the boys in the family. Great choices!!

rollo

[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Caroline[/name] btw!
My top five are: [name]Grant[/name], [name]Miles[/name], [name]Garrett[/name], [name]Will[/name] (if it was longer) and [name]Curtis[/name].

[name]Matthew[/name] - Too common for my taste, but matches [name]Christopher[/name] well.
[name]Logan[/name] - I love [name]Logan[/name], but it isn’t a timeless classic. It seems more like a trendy name to me.
[name]Grant[/name] - I think [name]Grant[/name] is so handsome and underused. [name]One[/name] of my favorites on your list. I like that it was always consistently used, but never trended upwards. [name]Will[/name] never seem dated. I also like [name]Felix[/name] for that same reason.
[name]Ryan[/name] - Like [name]Logan[/name], I also really like [name]Ryan[/name], but it isn’t a timeless classic.
[name]Matteo[/name] - Not my cup of tea.
[name]Aiden[/name] - [name]Way[/name] too trendy. Not classic in the slightest. Overdone. Does sound handsome though, but it would lose its appeal because is everywhere!
[name]Dillon[/name] - I like [name]Dylan[/name] better, than [name]Dillon[/name] (reminds me dill too much). I like it though. Underused.
[name]Miles[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my favorites on your list. I really love [name]Miles[/name]. [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Christopher[/name] sounds awesome together.
[name]Patrick[/name] - Overused, boring and I hate the nicknames for it.
[name]Landon[/name] - Not classic at all.
[name]Garrett[/name] - I like [name]Garrett[/name]! Handsome, not overly common and classic.
[name]Will[/name] - I prefer a longer variation of this name, [name]William[/name], [name]Wilhelm[/name] or [name]Willem[/name] perhaps?
[name]Curtis[/name] - I love [name]Curtis[/name] as along as it doesn’t get shortened to [name]Curt[/name]. [name]Curtis[/name] is a great underused classic. I would come up with a fun nickname to avoid [name]Curt[/name].
[name]Colin[/name] - I like [name]Colin[/name], but it is not classic enough.
[name]Evan[/name] - Too trendy in comparison to [name]Christopher[/name].

[name]Matthew[/name] and [name]Patrick[/name] are the most fitting, and [name]Grant[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] are the most refreshing. You can’t go wrong with one of those four in your family. As for middle names- Because [name]Christopher[/name] was given such a strong family name, I’d look for something as worthy this time, not just a filler mn. Good luck!
