Searching for a sibling name to go with Rex

Hello Berries,
I need your help. We are expecting our second baby. We have one son called [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and I am searching for a name that will go well with [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. (I love this name so please no negative comments or opinions about my son’s name). I don’t know if it is a boy yet but I want to be prepared as I find choosing boys names harder! I’d love some suggestions.
Names currently up for consideration include:

[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Dash[/name_u])
[name_u]Auden[/name_u]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u])
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]

None of these feel quite right though.
I’m not sure what our taste is, but we both like names that aren’t that popular and names with history. Our last name starts with a T so we cannot do any names starting with T.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] would be too weird or seem like we are trying too hard?

Other names we like but won’t use for various reasons: [name_u]Toby[/name_u], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_m]Beckett[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].

Thanks in advance for your advice
[name_f]Jetta[/name_f]

I love [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see someone using it.

I’m assuming you’ll cross [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]) off since you say you won’t do T-names.

[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] ([name_u]Dash[/name_u]) and [name_u]Rex[/name_u] do seem a bit hipster, but sweet. I like that [name_u]Rex[/name_u] has been used for years. [name_u]Dash[/name_u] is a relative newcomer. I feel like if you choose [name_u]Dash[/name_u], you’ll establish [name_u]Rex[/name_u] as a more cutesy choice. If you choose something with more weight, it’ll bring [name_u]Rex[/name_u] more substance. Totally [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Where did you get the inspiration for [name_u]Rex[/name_u]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any other names that have meaning or special connection for you and your partner?

[name_u]Rex[/name_u] + [name_m]Viggo[/name_m]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] + [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (call him [name_m]Thor[/name_m]?)
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] + [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] + [name_m]Cole[/name_m]

I’m guessing [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]'s on the list because the T sound is the problem, not the letter itself (since [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] starts with TH)?.

[name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is cute, although [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] seems more a natural fit. [name_u]Theo[/name_u] is a proper name in its own right, you could do it.

I love the name [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], and [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] are pretty nice together. I agree with pp that it is a little heavily hipster, but trying to hard? What does that mean exactly? I think some people might react that way here and there, but people will get over it.

[name_u]Auden[/name_u] and [name_m]Caius[/name_m] are both pretty pleasing. I do think that [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Caius[/name_m] are pretty heavily Latin, although you still could.

I keep thinking of [name_u]Rex[/name_u] with lots of other R names, but that’s probably off the table for you. I normally wouldn’t suggest it either, I just think they sound really good ([name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Roman[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]. Oh well).

[name_m]Clive[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Ingo[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Nigel[/name_m]
[name_m]Niles[/name_m]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_m]Orpheus[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]

Thanks for both of your comments. I hadn’t thought about how the second child’s name could change the weight of [name_u]Rex[/name_u] - I think you are right about that, schlickler.

I think [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] sound really good. I also still like [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] a lot. I suppose by “trying too hard” I meant will people think we are trying to pick trendy hipster names? Or trying to make our kids stand out too much?

What do people think about [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]?

My partner really likes [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] go together? I think they are a bit too similar. The same thing with [name_m]Felix[/name_m] (another name I quite like but it sounds too silly with [name_u]Rex[/name_u]).

I really appreciate your comments! Thanks.

What about?

[name_m]Beau[/name_m]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_m]Heath[/name_m]
[name_m]Jett[/name_m]
[name_m]Knox[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_u]Pax[/name_u]
[name_m]Rocco[/name_m]
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]
[name_m]Samson[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_m]Zane[/name_m]

I like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m].

I’m not in love with [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and dexter as I feel like its inevitable people will call him [name_m]Dex[/name_m], and [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Dex[/name_m] sounds a bit too much.

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] is a nice name, but again I’d avoid the two names ending in x.

I get what you mean about dashiell. It does feel a bit too Hollywood trendy.

I like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] combined with 3-4 letter names.

[name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Sean[/name_m]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Eli[/name_m]

[name_u]Rex[/name_u] and:

[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Beau[/name_m]
[name_u]Lennox[/name_u]
[name_u]Cruz[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Quincy[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_m]Zeke[/name_m]

I love [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] together! It’s a great combo!

[name_u]Rex[/name_u] & [name_m]Leo[/name_m] – fabulous!
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] & [name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] & [name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] & [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
I see nothing wrong with [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_u]Dash[/name_u].

Definitely avoid other names with X in them.
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Dex/name_m is too silly
I like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but I am sorry to say, they sound like dogs or cats or cartoon characters.
Another shorter name is a great idea though! [name_u]Rex[/name_u] is cool.
Here are some suggestions for another cool guy name:
[name_m]Levi[/name_m]
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]/[name_u]Elias[/name_u]/[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] - [name_m]Eli[/name_m]
[name_m]Zane[/name_m]
[name_m]Thane[/name_m]
[name_u]Leith[/name_u]
[name_m]Colin[/name_m]
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m]
[name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]
[name_m]Rocco[/name_m]
[name_u]Niall[/name_u]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] - [name_m]Ike[/name_m]
[name_m]Clayton[/name_m] - [name_m]Clay[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m] - [name_u]Cal[/name_u]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - [name_m]Hal[/name_m] or [name_m]Hank[/name_m]
[name_u]Francis[/name_u] or [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] - [name_m]Frank[/name_m]
[name_m]Byron[/name_m]
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] - [name_m]Sid[/name_m]
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]

HTH

The right fit, to me, would be a name somewhere between [name_u]Dash[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u]

[name_u]Rex[/name_u] names-

[name_m]Nash[/name_m] is somehow heavier than [name_u]Dash[/name_u], imo…

[name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_m]Beau[/name_m], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Marshall[/name_m], [name_u]Emory[/name_u], [name_m]Milo[/name_m]/[name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_m]Victor[/name_m] ([name_u]Vic[/name_u]), [name_u]Neil[/name_u], [name_u]Dean[/name_u], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] ([name_m]Vince[/name_m]), [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], Ames, [name_m]Chester[/name_m] ([name_m]Chet[/name_m]), [name_u]Noel[/name_u], [name_u]Dane[/name_u], [name_m]Law[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] ([name_m]Gabe[/name_m]), [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] ([name_u]Cal[/name_u]), [name_m]Harris[/name_m], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_m]Winston[/name_m], [name_u]Van[/name_u], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] ([name_m]Nate[/name_m]), [name_m]Edward[/name_m] ([name_m]Ned[/name_m])

I really like the name [name_u]Rex[/name_u]! I really like [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_m]Ike[/name_m], [name_u]Gus[/name_u], and [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] from other posters suggestions. I like them both as is with [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and with longer forms with them as a nn.

I really like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m]! [name_u]Si[/name_u] and [name_u]Rex[/name_u] is too cute! There’s also [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], and [name_m]Silas[/name_m]. I also really like [name_m]Vince[/name_m], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], [name_m]Victor[/name_m], [name_m]Viktor[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], and [name_m]Declan[/name_m]- similar to me at least to [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], Dec and [name_u]Rex[/name_u] dont sound as matchy as [name_m]Dex[/name_m] and [name_u]Rex[/name_u] do. I think that [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is nice actually with [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. The X ties them together.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Rex[/name_u]! My first son was going to be [name_u]Rex[/name_u] if my husband would have agreed to it
When I think of [name_u]Rex[/name_u] I think Old Hollywood ([name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]) So maybe…

[name_m]Clark[/name_m]
[name_m]Rooney[/name_m] (this may be too rhyme-y)
[name_m]Frank[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]
[name_m]Sid[/name_m]
[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]
[name_u]Cary[/name_u]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]

I really do like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] & [name_u]Theo[/name_u]/[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] but a pp suggested [name_u]Rex[/name_u] & [name_m]Levi[/name_m]…wow.

[name_u]Rex[/name_u] & [name_m]Levi[/name_m] - really standout combination. [name_m]Levi[/name_m] is biblical but still a hearty, masculine, and fresh name that really tones down the trendy feel that some of the other pairings created. I love this sibset.

If [name_m]Levi[/name_m] is too popular for you, [name_u]Rex[/name_u] & [name_m]Levon[/name_m] or [name_u]Rex[/name_u] & [name_m]Lev[/name_m] are just as great!
(Pronunciations I prefer are [name_u]Lee[/name_u] von and lev rhymes with dev)

I have a [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and his brothers name is [name_m]Cole[/name_m]

I think [name_u]Theo[/name_u] is a great sibling name!

Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions. Great to hear someone else has chosen [name_u]Rex[/name_u] as a name

I also love the sibset [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. Since [name_u]Rex[/name_u] is a title/epithet, perhaps [name_m]Cesare[/name_m] (CHEHZ-er-ray…a GP of mine that I would use if permitted!) or [name_u]August[/name_u] (have you seen [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Rush[/name_m]?) or [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]?
