Searching for names for our third boy!

Hello, all!

A friend of mine recommended this site after she discovered it when she was pregnant with her first baby. She said that everyone on here was helpful, and the opinions helped her settle on the perfect name for her daughter. I thought that since we’re due in [name_u]January[/name_u] with our third child and are stuck on names that I would give this website a try.

My husband, [name_m]Joel[/name_m], and I have been married for 8 years and have two beautiful little boys. Our third child is also a boy! We both secretly wanted a girl, but we are thrilled to have another boy to welcome into our hearts. We’re pretty sure he is our last baby, but we aren’t 100% on that yet. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if we had a fourth child, we would wait two to three more years before considering it again.

Our two boys are [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Graham[/name_m] “[name_m]Eddie[/name_m]”(7 today!) and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (3). We are throwing [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] a [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars birthday party tomorrow! [name_m]How[/name_m] fitting with the new movie coming out next month. Both boys are excited to have a new little brother!

Some of the names we like are [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Abram[/name_m]/[name_m]Abraham[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], and [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. However, we are open to suggestions! We both really like [name_m]Judah[/name_m] at the moment, but we are worried that the possibility of the nickname [name_u]Jude[/name_u] makes it too popular. [name_m]Joel[/name_m] and I don’t like the idea of our son being one of two or three kids with the same name in his class.

What names do you think we would like for our third son? We appreciate any and all suggestions!

Thank you!

[name_u]Love[/name_u],
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_m]Joel[/name_m], [name_m]Eddie[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], and #3!

[name_m]Judah[/name_m] was a favorite of mine, too, but the popularity killed it. What about [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]? For me, it has the same feel as [name_u]Jude[/name_u], same initial consonant, too, but not quite as popular. [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]? [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]? [name_m]Weston[/name_m]? [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]?

From you list I think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is lovely with [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. Have you considered…

[name_m]Simon[/name_m] - I think this goes great with [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] - love this for you!
[name_u]James[/name_u]

I think your name choices are lovely, any of them would work really well with your other sons’ names! I especially love [name_m]Judah[/name_m]!! I do think though, if you’re worried about [name_m]Judah[/name_m]/[name_u]Jude[/name_u] being too popular, you should be concerned about [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_u]Michael[/name_u] as well. These three names are far more common than [name_m]Judah[/name_m] atm. Other names you could consider:
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] or [name_m]Simeon[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_u]Seth[/name_u]
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
[name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] (I love [name_u]Toby[/name_u]!)
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Orson[/name_m]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] - less common than you would think these days!

[name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a great set.

Others that would go nicely with the classic feel of [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]:
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Aaron[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]

Congratulations on baby boy #3; sounds like a happy family, I’m sure he will be much loved.

My first thought on the names you’re considering I think I would cross [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] off the list as [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] & [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] is just a little too familial. I don’t know if your family is religious; if Jewish it might not be seen as anything unusual, but if [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and for example your boys are going to [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] School - I don’t know, brothers named [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] just might draw some unwanted humor.

I agree with what pp said about the popularity of [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and increasingly, of [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Both solidly in Top 100 last year. That being said, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] & [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] are both very classic names like [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and both would work well with brother’s names. (I prefer [name_m]Henry[/name_m], love that name! [name_u]Michael[/name_u] is not a huge favorite, it’s just strikes me as much overused in recent decades unfortunately - I believe there are some statistics that it is the most common name for any male born in the US since 1955?.) So even if he did wind up with [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as an occasional nickname, I think [name_m]Judah[/name_m] is the name least likely to be duplicated in his classroom.

Okay so sorry if that was a bit rambly - to sum up - [name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is great.

[name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] & [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] & [name_u]James[/name_u]

Congratulations on your third boy and your sibling set! All of your choices are great, though I prefer [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. I actually like [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] too, but I agree with the commenter who said that a non-Jewish sibling set with an [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and an [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] might sound funny.

As for [name_m]Judah[/name_m]'s popularity, I think you should weigh in which is more important to both of you–is it more important that you like the name you’re giving regardless of its popularity, or is it more important that your name is more distinctive? [name_m]Judah[/name_m] is a perfectly fine name, and if you like it more than feel the need to cross it off because it’s popular, then you should give that to your son.

Here are some names you might like (sorry for the repeats): [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Jonas[/name_m], and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m].

From your list, I like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] best with [name_m]Edward[/name_m]/[name_m]Eddie[/name_m] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. What about using [name_m]Judah[/name_m] as a mn? [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m], or [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m] all work well as combos. If you use [name_m]Abram[/name_m]/[name_m]Abraham[/name_m], consider [name_m]Bram[/name_m] as a nn. The first name I thought of for your sibset was [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. It works well as the first or mn with the other names you like-- [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], etc.

Some other possibilities:

[name_m]Paul[/name_m]
