[name]Baby[/name] boy #3 is due in 6 weeks and we are finally getting closer to choosing a name!
DH and I are have pretty much decided on [name]Sebastian[/name] as a first name, to join brothers [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]. Neither of us are too keen on the nicknames [name]Seb[/name]/ Sebby or [name]Bas[/name]/[name]Baz[/name], though I do kind of like Bash as a nickname… Which brings me to [name]Sacha[/name]… This has always been a name crush of mine and incredibly, DH likes it too [name]Do[/name] you think it would be too much of a stretch as a nn for [name]Sebastian[/name]? I know you don’t NEED a nn but especially with a longer more formal name like [name]Sebastian[/name], I like the idea of having a short form. So what do you think? Would [name]Sacha[/name] catch on as a nickname? Ideally I would like him to be able to go by both names interchangeably like my eldest does with [name]Oliver[/name] / [name]Ollie[/name].
I think it’s a great nn for [name]Sebastian[/name]!
I love that Idea! I may have to steal it.
[name]Sacha[/name] could definitely work for [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Miles[/name], [name]Oliver[/name] “[name]Ollie[/name]”, & [name]Sebastian[/name] “[name]Sacha[/name]” are a perfect par.
Oh my. I’m with dayken95. I may have to steal the idea. I love it, and [name]Sebastian[/name] goes so well with [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name].
Thanks for the responses! Steal away!!!
While [name]Sacha[/name] is traditionally a nn for [name]Alexander[/name], I think it could definitely work for a [name]Sebastian[/name]. [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] are “natural” brothers.
I think it can work, but unlike others it feels a bit odd to me. It just feels really culturally different to go from [name]Sebastian[/name] to [name]Sacha[/name], but there’s nothing wrong with it and I’ve known a lot of people who have nicknames completely unrelated to their given names so on that front…completely usable.
I dunno… I’m usually really lenient about nicknames, but the roots for [name]Sacha[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] are so disjointed that my mind has issues connecting the two. I do like [name]Sasha[/name] on a boy, and I don’t love [name]Alexander[/name], so that’s disappointing, lol.
I love [name]Sebastian[/name], but I love [name]Baz[/name] as a nickname, and Sebas (seh-bahs). [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Miles[/name], and [name]Sebastian[/name] are AMAZING together!
I adore [name]Sebastian[/name] and I think [name]Sacha[/name] as a nn works! I really like it!
My favourite nickname for [name]Sebastian[/name] is [name]Ash[/name]–that’s what my son would probably be named if I were to have one.
I think [name]Sebastian[/name] is wonderful and see no problem with [name]Sasha[/name] as a nn - it is cute though [name]Baz[/name] and Bash are cool.
I don’t agree with the others!
I think [name]Sacha[/name] is just TOO weird of a change from sebastian!! I would prefer [name]Ian[/name] (as in sebast[name]IAN[/name])
I do agree with lucialucentum about [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Sacha[/name] not being connected but I think it’s fine and I had never though about [name]Sacha[/name] as a nickname for [name]Sebastian[/name] before. [name]Sacha[/name] has been on my mind lately so I think it’s a great nickname/name especially for a boy, [name]Sebastian[/name] is also a wonderful name and works really well with [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]. Good luck!
I think it could work (I basically think anything goes with nicknames), but I would prefer [name]Sasha[/name]. [name]Just[/name] because my name is S@cha Ebie (ee-bee) would be cute for when he’s younger! Good luck.
Its a great name! [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe I’m biased
I’m a girl but my second name is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and my nn is [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] which I think is really cute! I also know another kid called [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and his parents call him Sachan
Bash is the one that would stick. Honestly I think [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] is too much of a different name.
I think if I didn’t associate [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] I’d really like it. Also, the vowel sounds are also a bit different in my American accent.
But I think I could get used to the idea! [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] is very, very cute.
[name_f]My[/name_f] son is “Bash” [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and we’ve never attempted another nickname. I love Bash because it’s so very different in its feel than [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].
They personally seem like two separate names to me so I don’t see one being a nickname for the other…. But… this post is ten years old so maybe the OP could let us know if it made sense in the end
