So we’re finally getting our boys list narrowed down, the 2 front runners (at the moment!) are [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name]
I would welcome your opinion on both names. The middle name will be [name]Peter[/name] and our last name begins with A is 2 syllables and ends ley. We like the nicknames [name]Seb[/name] and [name]Eli[/name].
What kind of person do you picture for these names!? Is [name]Sebastian[/name] to much name for a little boy!? [name]Will[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] be pronounced incorrectly!? (i’m in the UK, as far as i can tell its not that popular over here!) [name]Just[/name] trying to see if there are any flaws i’ve overlooked in these names!
I’m in NZ and [name]Sebastian[/name] is SO common!! I know a lot of little Sebastians who are currently aged 2-3. I think if it’s not overly common where you are then it’s my first pick just because I think [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Peter[/name] flows more nicely than [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Peter[/name]. But if you were asking me which name was my favourite I would definitely say [name]Elijah[/name]. I don’t think [name]Sebastian[/name] is too much to name a little boy but that could be because it’s so common here that I’ve grown used to it. I think [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Peter[/name] sounds lovely in an American or Irish accent but not so nice in an English accent…I do think that even though it’s not common, it’s still well known enough that most people would pronounce it correctly.
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Peter[/name] gets my vote based on the way it sounds
[name]Sebastian[/name]! [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Peter[/name] is great. I’ve never been a fan of [name]Elijah[/name]. I know it’s a traditional male name, but it has always reminded me of [name]Eliza[/name] and therefore seemed feminine. Plus, I know one and have heard of several little girls named [name]Elijah[/name] so I worry about it going to the girls. I vote [name]Sebastian[/name], but good luck either way!
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Peter[/name] TOTALLY wins it for me. I know of someone else in the UK who has [name]Elijah[/name] in her top five (I think her combo is [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Miles[/name]), but where I am, it’s probably one of the trendiest, most popular names I know. I don’t know a lot of people, but I’m pretty sure I know like, FIFTEEN Elijahs/Alijahs. Besides, I much prefer the look and feel of [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Peter[/name] ([name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Peter[/name] would be awesome, as well). I think [name]Seb[/name] is one of the coolest nicknames ever! The one [name]Sebastian[/name] I know goes by [name]Bastian[/name] or just [name]Sebastian[/name]. I also like the nn [name]Ian[/name] for it, although I’m told [name]Ian[/name] is dated in the UK? I don’t know personally.
I really love both names, although I do prefer [name]Elliot[/name] to [name]Elijah[/name]. I think that, like many of the pp’s, [name]Sebastian[/name] gets my vote. If you’re in the US, I know its not terrible common. In [name]Texas[/name], I have yet to meet a little [name]Sebastian[/name].
I like [name]Elijah[/name] better, simply because [name]Sebastian[/name] seems a little over the top for a boy’s name. And I love the nickname [name]Eli[/name].
That being said, [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Peter[/name] strikes me as super-Biblical. It doesn’t really bother me, as I’m religious and used to it, but it might cause the “whoa factor” for some people.
So [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Peter[/name] gets my vote!
[name]Sebastian[/name]- Smart
[name]Elijah[/name]- Fun
Besides being a name nerd, I have a degree in Biology so [name]Sebastian[/name] always make me think sebacious glad…but few people would go there lol. I grew up in South [name]Texas[/name] and there was a [name]Sebastian[/name] in my class. His name was more a reflection of his parents than him. He acceled in academics because they pushed him. Although the name [name]Sebastian[/name] is a bit nerdy, he was a regular guy and did what a lot of guys down there do-- work in the oilfield instead of go to college. So, to me, the name just might not fit the kid. I don’t think [name]Seb[/name]/Sebby is a desireable nn but not bad. The [name]Sebastian[/name] I went to college with embodied the Classics, studied PoliSci and is doing his Masters in Business now I think. So, I think the name suits him!
[name]Elijah[/name] is a versatile name imo, its good on a lil baby, [name]Eli[/name] is a great nn, and its suitable for an adult as well. I haven’t met an [name]Elijah[/name], although I know a few kids named [name]Eli[/name]. I don’t know if people would say [name]Eli[/name]-jer due to their accent, it wouldn’t happen in the U.S. anyway.
I like [name]Elijah[/name] better, but I think that [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Peter[/name] flows a bit nicer, but its a close call!
Wow thanks for all the responses berries, i knew i came to this site for a reason!
So it seems [name]Sebastian[/name] is winning this one! I do still have slight concern that [name]Sebastian[/name] maybe a little flamboent!? However i can manage to pick holes in most names. I loved the name [name]George[/name] but picked holes in it, but now that a friend has used it i love it! I think i just just worry too much that this baby will be stuck with whatever we choose so its a big decision and also worry about what other people will think about our choices too - which i know i shouldn’t!!!
Ashthedreamer you are right, there do seem to be a number of possible nicknames which is a plus i think, but as you mentioned [name]Ian[/name] seems a bit dated over here!
Owl - that is something that has crossed my mind about [name]Elijah[/name] maybe going to the girls at some point, but i do so love the nn [name]Eli[/name] - i suppose that could be used by itself but seems a little short for a full name!?
Thanks again for all your replies, its so useful getting honest feedback I’ll be sharing your advice with the hubby to see if we can finally make a decision!
