Seeking fresh inspiration ... especially poetic & romantic names

[name_f]My[/name_f] name list for girls hasn’t changed much in a long while… so it feels a bit stagnant…however, I’m still quite happy with my current boy’s name list - so not looking to expand the latter list at this time. Ergo, wanting to expand & refresh my girl’s name list, I used this website for inspiration. It provides random name combinations. Below, I’ve listed some names that have caught my attention using the random name generator. I’d like to know:

What do you think of these names listed below? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like any names listed? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you loathe any names listed? Are there other names derived from the random name generator or otherwise that you think are fresh and attractive/ beautiful etc for a girl? I’m interested to hear fresh name ideas…especially names that are poetic or romantic in some way…

Thanks

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Iola[/name_f]! [name_u]Unique[/name_u] and fresh but would fit right in with [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Viola[/name_f], [name_f]Iona[/name_f], etc. I also like [name_f]Faith[/name_f], tho I wouldn’t use it myself. Can’t say I’m a fan of the rest of the list. Too far out there for me!

[name_f]Easter[/name_f]: I think it makes a cute name, though I’m fairly certain you’ll get a lot of raised eyebrows from other people.
[name_f]Charlett[/name_f]: I would stick with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
Altagrazia: It just sounds like an Italian exclamation, not really a name. how about [name_f]Graciela[/name_f] or [name_f]Altalune[/name_f]?
[name_f]Capri[/name_f]: I like [name_f]Capri[/name_f], I have it on my list, though I question its usability because of the whole pants thing.
[name_f]Caprice[/name_f]: I like this too, and it might be a little better suited to real life since it isn’t a pants length.
[name_m]Marquise[/name_m]/ Markaisa / Marchesa: I like all three to a degree, Makaisa is my least favorite. Marchesa is my favorite, followed by [name_m]Marquise[/name_m]. They sound like [name_m]French[/name_m] aristrocrats which is awesome.
[name_f]Sibell[/name_f]: I think [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] is the best way to go. The “bell” ending makes me want to pronounce it differently than the actual name [name_f]Sybil[/name_f].
Ulissa: It’s neat, you don’t see a lot of U names, but just realize it will probably be misunderstood as [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f].
[name_u]Rio[/name_u]: Cute, but It can’t picture it on a little girl to be blunt.
[name_f]Iola[/name_f]: Hm, I like it. It’s a little quirky, which I adore in names.
Egbertha: This is my least favorite of the whole list. Egbertha plainly does not belong on birth certificates.
[name_f]Auriel[/name_f]: It sounds pretty, though there may be some confusion with [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]. Have you ever heard of Ambriel? It’s the name of the patron angel of the month of [name_f]May[/name_f].
Asfodelle/ Asphodelle/ Asphodel: from what I know of Greek mythology, the [name_m]Field[/name_m] of Asphodel were the space set aside for the mediocre people who hadn’t been good enough or Elysium or bad enough for Punishment. It’s kind of a cruddy place to be named after, truthfully.
[name_f]Chardonnay[/name_f]: Nooooooo, not the wine! Though shalt not name babies after wine.
[name_u]Parrish[/name_u]: Ooh, I kind of adore this. it reminds me of Chapel, a quirky religious word name. [name_u]Parrish[/name_u] would be a totally hipster baby name.
[name_m]Bergen[/name_m]: Sounds very masculine to me. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Burgundy[/name_u] perhaps?
[name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u]: It’s a neat city, but I’m not sure its suited to be a name. If you want to reference the place more subtly, [name_f]Delphia[/name_f] would be utterly awesome.
[name_f]Arcangela[/name_f]/ [name_f]Archangela[/name_f]: Sorry, but I it sounds a little try-hard.
[name_f]Mersey[/name_f]/ [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]: [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is cute, I would avoid [name_f]Mersey[/name_f]. [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is so unexpected in 2014 it’s fantastic.
[name_f]Eireen[/name_f]: Is this supposed to be like [name_f]Irene[/name_f]? I had to think about that.
Apolena: Not bad, though I much prefer [name_f]Apollonia[/name_f] and [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] (both of which I find utterly romantic and would suit you well)
[name_f]Tundra[/name_f]: [name_f]Tundra[/name_f] landscape isn’t all that wonderful. It might work for a boy, actually.
[name_f]Pernella[/name_f]: Eh.
[name_f]Chantae[/name_f]: I hate to say it, but [name_f]Chantae[/name_f] sounds kind of…trashy to me.
[name_f]Lori[/name_f]: [name_f]Lori[/name_f] seems dated to me. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]? It’s the name of a star, giving a romantic feel automatically.
[name_f]Tangela[/name_f]: It reminds me of the fruit, the tangelo. It’s not too too bad though.
Compassion: As a noun name, it’s very serious and long, which in my opinion signals that it’s not an ideal name.
Faeth/ [name_f]Fayth[/name_f]/ [name_f]Faith[/name_f]: [name_f]Faith[/name_f] is nice, but I think the moment you misspell it, you’ve taken away the virtue value of the name.

[name_f]Kerensa[/name_f] (means love - how much more romantic does it get?)

Good luck! I admire your style for its lyrical boldness.

I like:

[name_f]Caprice[/name_f]
[name_f]Sibell[/name_f] (prefer the [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] spelling, [name_f]Sybella[/name_f] is pretty too)
[name_u]Rio[/name_u] (for a boy, prefer [name_f]Ria[/name_f] for a girl)
[name_f]Iola[/name_f]
[name_f]Auriel[/name_f]
Apolena (prefer [name_f]Apollonia[/name_f] or [name_f]Apolline[/name_f])

Suggesting:

[name_f]Bellezza[/name_f]
[name_f]Zabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Kerensa[/name_f]
[name_f]Mazarine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mahala[/name_f]
[name_f]Izara[/name_f]

[name_f]Easter[/name_f]- [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]
[name_f]Charlett[/name_f]- I think it would cause too many problems with the spelling. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a lot easier.
Altagrazia- I like it: exotic and graceful.
[name_f]Capri[/name_f]- I think of the pant, rather than the island.
[name_f]Caprice[/name_f]- [name_f]Caprice[/name_f] has a lovely musical meaning, but in common English, it is a bit of an odd thing to name a child, considering the meaning. I have [name_f]Cappi[/name_f] in my signature, which is a diminutive of [name_f]Caprice[/name_f].
[name_m]Marquise[/name_m]/ Markaisa / Marchesa- I don’t like the first two at all, and I think Marchesa is too tied to the brand name, so it would be like naming your child [name_f]Gucci[/name_f], Prada, or [name_u]Armani[/name_u]. If that doesn’t bother you, go for it :).
[name_f]Sibell[/name_f]- [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]. The [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] spelling would be easier though.
Ulissa- Pretty spelling, but be aware you will have a lot of people spelling it [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] / [name_f]Alisa[/name_f] / [name_f]Elisa[/name_f], etc.
[name_u]Rio[/name_u]- [name_u]LOVE[/name_u].
[name_f]Iola[/name_f]- [name_f]Lovely[/name_f].
Egbertha- I like it, but I don’t think I could name a child Egbertha. Too much potential for ‘egg’ teasing, especially when coupled with [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] (birth her).
[name_f]Auriel[/name_f]- [name_u]LOVE[/name_u].
Asfodelle/ Asphodelle/ Asphodel- I love the proper botanical spelling (Asphodel), and I think it is a really pretty name. The other spellings are a bit confusing and unwieldy.
[name_f]Chardonnay[/name_f]- NO.
[name_u]Parrish[/name_u]-I would spell it [name_m]Parish[/name_m], to make things a bit easier. [name_m]Just[/name_m] be aware that you will have a lot of people who think it is [name_u]Paris[/name_u].
[name_m]Bergen[/name_m]- NMS, but still lovely. A gorgeous city.
[name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u]- NMS, but still lovely.
[name_f]Arcangela[/name_f]/ [name_f]Archangela[/name_f]- I love this, but I only think it would work with a very particular type of surname.
[name_f]Mersey[/name_f]/ [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]- I thoroughly dislike the misspelling ([name_f]Mersey[/name_f]), but [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is gorgeous. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you spell it [name_f]Mersey[/name_f], everyone will think it is [name_f]Mercy[/name_f].
[name_f]Eireen[/name_f]- NMS, but still a nice name.
Apolena- [name_u]LOVE[/name_u].
[name_f]Tundra[/name_f]- I like it.
[name_f]Pernella[/name_f]- I just think of the word pernicious (not a good thing), and prunes.
[name_f]Chantae[/name_f]- Sounds like a sort of false ‘trying-to-be-[name_m]French[/name_m]’ name. Sorry. If you love it though, go for it.
[name_f]Lori[/name_f]- Cute.
[name_f]Tangela[/name_f]- I don’t know what to think about this. I think of tangelo’s and the word ‘tangled’.
Compassion- I like this.
Faeth/ [name_f]Fayth[/name_f]/ [name_f]Faith[/name_f]- The original spelling is lovely, the others are confusing and unnecessary.

Favourites: [name_f]Easter[/name_f], Altagrazia, [name_f]Sibell[/name_f], [name_u]Rio[/name_u], [name_f]Auriel[/name_f], Asphodel, [name_f]Archangela[/name_f], [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], Apolena.

Dislikes: [name_f]Capri[/name_f], [name_f]Caprice[/name_f] (check meaning, which is used in everyday language), [name_m]Marquise[/name_m]/ Markaisa / Marchesa, Egbertha, [name_f]Chardonnay[/name_f], [name_f]Pernella[/name_f], [name_f]Chantae[/name_f].

I hope that didn’t come across as mean (that wasn’t my intention), I was just being honest, so sorry if that does.

@Emsky ~ Yes, I love [name_f]Iola[/name_f] too !! It means [name_f]Violet[/name_f], which is another name I love. [name_f]Faith[/name_f] is pretty too. Thanks a lot !

@Larkub101 ~ I love the suggestion of [name_f]Altalune[/name_f], a beautiful name… cheers! And I agree, Marchesa is a great name…I’ve decided I like the spelling Marquesa best as I think [name_m]Marquise[/name_m] is pronounced [name_m]Mark[/name_m]-eez (whereas I prefer the pronunciation [name_m]Mark[/name_m]-ay-za which equals Marquesa… but visually, I prefer [name_m]Marquise[/name_m]…I wonder then, if I can insist on calling [name_m]Marquise[/name_m] ‘[name_m]Mark[/name_m]-ay-za’ without constant correction??).

Re [name_f]Sibell[/name_f], I would pronounce this [name_m]Sy[/name_m]-[name_u]Bell[/name_u], not [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Sybella[/name_f] too.

Re Asfodelle/ Asphodel, I also thought it was the botanical name of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] ?

And yes, Egbertha does have an “Eg(g)” in it lol…Not everyone’s style !!

I love [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f], [name_f]Indira[/name_f], [name_f]Geneva[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] and especially Ambriel - gorgeous. Cheers !

@Seazuno86 ~ I love [name_f]Izara[/name_f], [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f] and [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] - positively lovely & fresh. Thanks !

@Nooshi ~ [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear you love [name_f]Easter[/name_f], [name_u]Rio[/name_u], [name_f]Iola[/name_f], [name_f]Auriel[/name_f] and Apolena :slight_smile: Great names I agree!! From your suggestions, I love: [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f], Delphinium, [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], [name_f]Altalune[/name_f], [name_f]Clemency[/name_f], Allegr(a), [name_f]Oceana[/name_f], [name_f]Medea[/name_f] (great name), [name_f]Saga[/name_f] (adore!), Juvia (wow - new to me! [name_u]Love[/name_u] it! I’d pronounce it with a [name_m]French[/name_m] “J” like ‘Jardin’), [name_f]Verona[/name_f], [name_f]Verena[/name_f], [name_f]Galilea[/name_f], [name_f]Electra[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], Ferelith, [name_u]Nouvel[/name_u] (very pretty), [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_f]Marcela[/name_f]. [name_f]Merci[/name_f] !

@ Privacyplease ~ I love [name_f]Iseult[/name_f] (love this spelling), [name_f]Celestine[/name_f], [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f], [name_f]Cyra[/name_f], [name_f]Abrial[/name_f], [name_f]Amandine[/name_f], [name_f]Isaline[/name_f], [name_m]Isidore[/name_m], [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] (romantic !), [name_f]Signy[/name_f] (fresh!), [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f] (lush). Thanks so much !

Cheers everyone  !!!

PS re Asphodel/ Asfodelle - it can also refer to a flower that grows in Elyseum i.e. Paradise

"For later Greek poets the very ancient pre-Homeric association of the Asphodel flower with a positive form of afterlife as well as the enlarged role of Elysium as it became the destination of more than just a few lucky heroes, altered the character of the meadows. Greek poets who wrote after [name_m]Homer[/name_m]'s time describe them as untouched, lovely, soft and holy. "

In this way, I think it is a beautiful name.
