[name]Sela[/name] is on our short list but I am worried about pronunciation issues. What are your thoughts on this and how do you pronounce it?
I say it like See-la. I think it’s pretty.
I pronounce it See lah. I have never met a [name]Sela[/name], only heard of actress [name]Sela[/name] [name]Ward[/name]. It’s very pretty and think most people won’t have any problem pronouncing it.
I pronounce it [name]SAY[/name]-luh. I think it’s pretty, but when I look at it I do kind of wonder what the correct pronunciation is, which turns me off. Once I learned it I would probably like it, though.
I think I would pronounce it Sell-uh… not sure though.
I would say either sell-uh or say-luh. I think it’s pretty, either way. Which pronunciation are you going for?
The only way I’ve heard it pronounced is sell-uh.
I pronounce it Seela because of actress [name]Sela[/name] [name]Ward[/name]. I just adore the name because it’s not used a lot and it just sounds so elegant. I would hate for my daughter to be plagued with these issues though. Perhaps I should stick with [name]Eleanor[/name] or [name]Fiona[/name].
I’d say SEE-la. I guess it helps that I know one.

[name]Sela[/name] is usually pronounced “SEE-luh” and [name]Selah[/name] is pronounced “[name]SAY[/name]-luh”. It’s a rare and gorgeous name either way so I would advise that you set aside your misgivings, pick the pronunciation you like the best and go for it! I always thought it was pronounced Sell-uh
[name]Sela[/name] is a hebrew name. It literally means to pause and reflect upon the verse that one has just read, I have also seen the meaning of “[name]ROCK[/name]” the h on the end does not change the pronunciation. It is prounounced Sella like [name]Stella[/name] without the “T” I have heard heard it pronounced differently outside the jewish community as [name]Say[/name]-lah, but it is not the correct hebrew pronunciation. it is pretty that way though. I like [name]Sela[/name] as it is.

I would pronounce it sey-la… if that makes sense. Similar to the french words [name]Cela[/name] or C’est là . Like… seh-LAH.
I would say that if you like the name go for it. If people can learn to love an [name]Isla[/name], I’m sure they can wrap their heads around a [name]Sela[/name].
I pronounce [name]Sela[/name] See-luh and [name]Selah[/name] [name]Say[/name]-luh, but I guess that’s just me.
I would say [name]SAY[/name]-luh since the only one I know in real life pronounces it this way. SEE-la is not a difficult jump, though, because of the actress. I think you’re going to have to correct people either way.
[name]Love[/name] this name! I have a student in my class (second grade) with this name. She pronounces it [name]SAY[/name]-la. Her father is from [name]Holland[/name] and mother is from Sri Lanka. She is a lovely child with a lovely name.
