Where I live I don’t think Opal is admitted as a name so I would have to go with Opaline which can be used
But I’m not sure if I like it enough so I would like to ask you everything you like about this name and why I should or shouldn’t use it
I love the name [name_f]Opal[/name_f] so much as a first name but if it is not admitted where you live then [name_f]Opaline[/name_f] is an amazing alternative to [name_f]Opal[/name_f]. [name_f]Opaline[/name_f] is a very sweet name and it is bright and cheerful. It has the nickname option of [name_f]Opal[/name_f] & [name_u]Lee[/name_u] which I think are adorable! I do feel that if you really like [name_f]Opal[/name_f] much more than the name [name_f]Opaline[/name_f] you should go with [name_f]Opal[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it may not be considered a name where you live once people know a girl named [name_f]Opal[/name_f] they will then consider it a name. For example I never considered [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] as a name until I met a girl with that name at school (nothing against the name [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] it’s just there was a character named this in a book and I just never considered it as a real name).
I like [name_f]Opaline[/name_f] a lot because it is a fantasy nature-y name that still seems grounded and familiar. [name_f]Opal[/name_f] is a cool nickname, but you could also go by Opie, [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Paula[/name_f], [name_u]Li[/name_u], and [name_f]Lina[/name_f]. It is easy to spell, you will likely not have an classmates with the same name, and gemstone names are very pretty (that last bit is opinionated but I think the rest is general).
I would use Opal in a heartbeat but it is forbidden to be used because there is a list of names that we can use in my country and since Opal isn’t consider to be a name, I can’t really use it even if I wanted to
How do nicknames work in your country? If you love [name_f]Opal[/name_f] I would think you could call your daughter [name_f]Opaline[/name_f] on legal documents and [name_f]Opal[/name_f] 100% of the rest of the time. It’s such an obvious contraction, people are probably likely to do it anyway.
