Serafina/Seraphina.... Bad biblical connection?

I really love this name. [name]Love[/name] the flow of it and the nn’s [name]Sera[/name], [name]Fee[/name], and [name]Fina[/name]. Please forgive my ignorance, but I don’t undestand exactly how it’s portrayed in the bible? Are they good angels? Could this name be construed as “bad” to use for a [name]Christian[/name]?

Those with DDs with this name: do you get positive or negative comments? [name]How[/name] is it received?

[name]Seraph[/name], the angels where [name]Seraphina[/name] comes from, are the highest rank of angels in Christianity, and they are definitely good . I’m not sure about Judaism though. I think it’s a beautiful name.

I didn’t even know [name]Seraphina[/name]/the seraphim could have a bad connotation! I’ve grown up a [name]Christian[/name] (still am), and seraphim (from which [name]Seraphina[/name] derives, I believe) are always held in the most positive light. When I googled “What are seraphim?” this is the first hit that came up for me:

“Noun: An angelic being, regarded in traditional [name]Christian[/name] angelology as belonging to the highest order of the ninefold celestial hierarchy, associated with light, ardor, and purity.”

Sounds pretty positive to me! I grew up with my grandmother telling me all about the seraphim and heaven and all, and it has a great connotation to me. I’m really not sure why it would be considered a negative name, unless you were not a [name]Christian[/name] and you were trying to keep away from anything Biblically-themed/inspired.

My only concern with the name is that people might think that any [name]Seraphina[/name] is named after [name]Seraphina[/name] Affleck…

@ashthedreamer: I didn’t even know what [name]Ben[/name] Affleck’s daughter’s name was! lol.

I think she just wasn’t familiar with where Seraphims were mentioned in the bible, not that she thought they were bad. She was just being cautious in case there was a potential bad connection like with [name]Delilah[/name] and [name]Jezebel[/name].

Really? lol. [name]Every[/name] time I have heard [name]Seraphina[/name] brought up on baby name websites, the Afflecks are always brought up. I figured everyone had the association, haha.

Anyway, I didn’t mean to imply that she thought they were bad. I was just surprised at the idea–I don’t know a ton about angels, even though I am a [name]Christian[/name], and it just surprised me at the thought that they may be bad. The thought had just never entered my mind!

Thx girls, and yes, I just wanted to double, triple check that the name was not a negative association. I’m a [name]Christian[/name] but an admittedly uneducated one at the moment. Not proud of that… So I actally really did not know exactly what the name [name]Seraphina[/name] might conjur.

What does everyone think of [name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]?

[name]How[/name] does [name]Seraphina[/name] compare to [name]Fiona[/name] or [name]Daphne[/name]?

[name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] is gorgeous! I love it. I prefer [name]Daphne[/name], personally, but [name]Seraphina[/name] is gorgeous, too, and I really like [name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Maeve[/name].

As for being an “uneducated [name]Christian[/name]”–I hope I didn’t make you feel bad about that. I’m just now trying to come back to my faith after a [name]LONG[/name] dark period in my life, and most days, I feel like I know nothing about what it means to be a [name]Christian[/name]. I always grew up in the church, but that doesn’t mean I know everything. It’s okay to be an uneducated [name]Christian[/name]. But yeah, I would totally see [name]Seraphina[/name] as a great association! It reminds me of the seraphim on the ark of the covenant. I am not sure why I like that association right now, haha.

Good luck!

[name]Just[/name] a suggestion, but if you like both [name]Seraphina[/name], and [name]Daphne[/name], have you thought about using [name]Delphine[/name] as a name?

[name]Seraphim[/name] are high ranking Angels but Angels could be seen as fierce and powerful, thy weren;t the cuddly cherubs the victorians turned them into. [name]Jacob[/name] wrestles with an [name]Angel[/name]

A seraph (pl. seraphim; Hebrew: שְׂרָפִי” śər”fîm, singular שָׂרָף ś”r”f; Latin: seraphi[m], singular seraph[us]; Greek: σε”αφείμ) is a type of celestial being in Judaism and Christianity. Literally “burning ones”, the word is normally a synonym for serpents when used in the Hebrew Bible, but they are mentioned in the Book of Isaiah as fiery six-winged beings which praise God while encircling His throne. This can be seen in Revelation 4:8 "Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come”. They are mentioned as celestial beings in an influential Hellenistic work, the non-canonical Book of Enoch, and a little later in the canonical Book of Revelation. They occupy the fifth of ten ranks of the hierarchy of angels in medieval and modern Judaism, and the highest rank in the Christian angelic hierarchy.

I’ve been friends (well first sort of frenemies, then friends) with a [name]Serafina[/name] since we were four. To me that name will always conjure up red curls, creativity, talent, and a constant smile. It sounds playful and fun, charismatic. I never even thought of the [name]Seraphim[/name] connection until this year. And it’s a pretty positive connection to me. [name]Even[/name] as fierce warriors with swords of fire, they’re still a pretty good connection to have.
