Two syllables and ending with ‘o’ is similar enough to me, just a personal preference thing I guess.
I would say it’s fine. [name] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [/name] [name] [name_u]James[/name_u] [/name] is very nice.
I don’t think [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] sounds like it has to be restricted to a certain language. It’s a really cute name.
Nah [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] has gotten really popular in the US across all cultures so I wouldn’t worry about it.
If you were doing [name_m]Jose[/name_m] or [name_m]Jorge[/name_m] or [name_m]Fernando[/name_m] or something I could see the concern but [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is really high in use by all kinds of people right now!
I agree with many of the other commenters here- [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is a great name and becoming trendy now in a way that makes it equal opportunity to all who love it! Personally, I love the name [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], but I’ve never once thought about it’s background, and even learning that it’s of [name_m]German[/name_m] and Spanish origin, that doesn’t make a huge impact on my perception of the name. If you love it, use it!
See, I thought you were asking whether it was inappropriate to give a dog a traditionally Mexican name, but then choosing a traditionally [name_m]German[/name_m] name for your son. As if one culture should be dehumanized, and as if German names are inherently superior.
I don’t think anyone else would notice unless you pointed it out, but I do find it odd that [name_m]Pablo[/name_m] is alright for your dog, but a decidedly European name is only appropriate for your son.
I like the name [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] btw - v handsome
I don’t think that was their intent at all! People have named their pets human names for a long time now and I don’t think any of that has to do with believing that one culture is animalistic and another is superior. I like the name [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] for my future pet and I like [name_m]Diego[/name_m] or [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] for my kids but it doesn’t mean that I think that the hispanic culture is superior to European.
Oh, I agree! I don’t think it was their intent, but when I was trying to find controversy in their question, that’s what I found to be the most problematic. But I don’t think it’s obvious, and I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
Sometimes I’m totally upside down with my interpretations, so I probably misread lol.
