Sevin for a boy?

We are expecting a 3. baby. These are our options for a boy.
He would be a brother to [name_u]Kai[/name_u] (boy) and [name_f]Nina[/name_f] (girl)

  1. Sevin (no nickname to think of now)
  2. [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] (nickname “Ru” or “[name_m]Ben[/name_m]” or “[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]”)
  3. Evren (nickname “[name_u]Ren[/name_u]”)
  4. [name_m]Soren[/name_m] (nickname “[name_u]Ren[/name_u]”)

They are in order of my preference at the moment. I really like Sevin, despite being so unusual, it sounds normal to me. He can sign with no. “7” Wdyt? I love [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] too, though…

Honestly, Sevin seems a bit ridiculous to me (furthered by the fact that he could sign his name as a number). [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] and [name_m]Soren[/name_m] are the only ones that really work with [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and [name_u]Kai[/name_u] imo.

I agree 100%

Your first 2 have such lovely, legitimate names. I’m sorry but Sevin seems silly in comparison. It’s a misspelled number and he’ll constantly have to hear about [name_m]George[/name_m] Costanza. My favorite option is [name_m]Soren[/name_m] but [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] is also nice. I love the nickname Ru! And [name_u]Ren[/name_u]!

I really love Evren and [name_m]Soren[/name_m] - [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] is nice too with the nn [name_u]Rue[/name_u]

I really don’t think a signature should be a pun, even more so if you’re not actually spelling it [name_u]Seven[/name_u]. I agree with previous posters that it makes the name worse, not better.

I like your other choices way better, especially [name_m]Soren[/name_m] and [name_m]Ruben[/name_m].

I really like [name_m]Soren[/name_m] and Evren with your other children’s names.

I have a nuanced opinion on your first choice. I actually really like the name Sevin/[name_u]Seven[/name_u] because aesthetically I love the sound and also love the number. HOWEVER I should tell you, I actually met a guy named [name_u]Seven[/name_u] a few years ago. He was dating a friend of mine and every time she told someone his name people would say “[name_u]Seven[/name_u]? Like the number??” Apparently he was used to that and found people’s reactions amusing, but I can imagine for some people it would get tiresome. So in conclusion: I personally like the name, but in real life it may be difficult to wear. (I’d probably prefer it as a middle name.)

If you do use the name and like the connection with the number 7, I would suggest that you spell the name as “[name_u]Seven[/name_u]” so as to kind of ‘own’ your choice, if that makes sense. Signing with the number 7 actually would be kind of cool and funny, but it only really works if his name is spelled as [name_u]Seven[/name_u]. Sevin ends up looking misspelled, by comparison. (Honestly if [name_u]Seven[/name_u]/Sevin wasn’t a number and just a name, I think I’d really like it.) I think Sev would be a solid nickname.

I really like your other options. I love the nickname Ru for [name_m]Ruben[/name_m]. It’s a cool name, even if it does remind me of the sandwich. I actually really like Evren, I think I’ve heard it before but can’t think of where. It has a cool sound. And [name_m]Soren[/name_m] is a solid choice as well. I have a family member named [name_m]Soren[/name_m], and he wears it well.

Best of luck with your decision!

I probably should have pointed out that we live in Central Europe, so nobody would thought of Sevin like the number and most people would spell it without problems (signature of no. 7 would be cool for a teenager I though). But still it is unusual name.
[name_m]Ruben[/name_m] would be most common sounding but still rare just like [name_u]Kai[/name_u]. I just prefer the look and sound of Sevin with my other kids names, this will not be easy

I would go for [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] or Evren. One of my friends called her son Evren, and it’s a name I like more and more as I hear it and I can tell it will age very well. I find the name Sevin too severe and slightly sinister-looking, on top of the potential hassles with the name.
