Sexual? names

I was considering the name [name]Carmen[/name] for a girl today. I just love it! But does in have sexual overtones due to it’s connection to [name]Lolita[/name] or more recently the [name]Lana[/name] del [name]Rey[/name] song?

What about names that nn [name]Lola[/name] or the name [name]Lola[/name]?

What about [name]Emmanuelle[/name]? A favorite of mine that I found out is the name of a series of soft porn movies!

What other names fall into this sexual category or do you disagree & think these are weak associations?

No disrespect intended but I always found [name]Lola[/name] a bit sexy.

Thoughts?

I just thought of [name]Ivy[/name] which makes me think of the Poison [name]Ivy[/name] movies about a sexy & manipulative teenager named [name]Ivy[/name]

[name]Desiree[/name] could be considered too.

[name]Lex[/name] and [name]Lexi[/name] are the only ones for me. I can’t get the term Sexy [name]Lexi[/name] out of my head.

The first name I thought of was [name]Roxanne[/name] because of the song. I like it though and I think it is still usable.

I don’t have any negative associations with [name]Carmen[/name] and [name]Emmanuelle[/name].

I don’t think [name]Lola[/name], [name]Emmanuelle[/name] and Carmne are too sexual. The names I have problems with are [name]Lolita[/name] and [name]Dolores[/name] for girls and [name]Humbert[/name] for boys. I don’t mind a sexual connection to a name as long as it’s consensual.

[name]Emmanuelle[/name] is a french erotica novel from the 60’s, but it’s pretty harmless, nowhere near [name]Sade[/name]'s work (like [name]Justine[/name], 120 Days of Sodom, Philosophies in the Bedroom) or The [name]Story[/name] of O.

I never thought of the connection between [name]Carmen[/name] and [name]Lolita[/name], but I do see [name]Carmen[/name] as kind of a fiery, sexy name. It makes me think of the opera. I don’t think that makes it off-limits, as it’s a fairly common Spanish name.

I loooooove the name [name]Emmanuelle[/name], and never heard about the films until I googled the name. I still think it’s useable; it took me 30+ years to hear about the films, which were made before I was born. There are other Emmanuelles out there who are more positive associations ([name]Emmanuelle[/name] Beart, [name]Emmanuelle[/name] Chriqui).

Ohh I hate to think [name]Dolores[/name] is too connected to [name]Lolita[/name] too!! I love [name]Dolores[/name], but my husband hates it anyway!

[name]Carmen[/name] has so many other associations that I think it’s fine. I’m just over thinking it because I am considering it so strongly

What about [name]Anais[/name]? I love it but it is connected to erotica.

[name]Ana[/name]ïs [name]Nin[/name]'s books are pure genius! Yeah, they’re erotic, but oh so fun and brilliant! I love them, and her name. Also, they’re not erotica, her novels are high literature about eroticism, feminism, liberation, etc. [name]Ana[/name]ïs falls into the same category as [name]Henry[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Constance[/name], [name]Tania[/name], to name a few.

I love the name [name]Dolores[/name] as well, but all I see is little [name]Lolita[/name] :frowning:

[name]Carmen[/name] and [name]Lola[/name]/[name]Lolita[/name] seem too sexy for me.
When I was little I had a friend named [name]Desiree[/name] and her name always felt naughty to me, LOL.
I really like the song Poison [name]Ivy[/name] by The Coasters but the innuendo is too much for me to like [name]Ivy[/name]

Interestingly, I don’t have a problem with “sexy” names on boys. I like names like [name]Remy[/name], [name]Blaise[/name], and [name]Drake[/name] because I picture them being worn by a hot, smoldering guy. But for a girl I feel uncomfortable giving her a name I feel is sexualize. A guilty pleasure of mine is [name]Fox[/name] for a girl. I love it on both genders but because I perceive it as sexy I’m too afraid to give it to a girl

I wanted to add [name]Jameson[/name] to the list…as in [name]Jenna[/name] & whiskey.

[name]Emmanuelle[/name] is a religious devotional name; it was selected-- like [name]Anastasia[/name] in 50 Shades-- specifically as a contrast to the behavior described inside. I definitely think its meaning and history supersede the films.

The ones that are off limits to me are [name]Anais[/name] (a one person name, no other associations really, and I don’t really like her writing at all), [name]Lolita[/name] ([name]Lola[/name] is a luscious name, no doubt, but still fine; the original [name]Delores[/name] is unimpeachable), & [name]Desiree[/name] (it used to mean ‘desired,’ in the sense of a wished-for child, but the sexual desire connotation has trumped).

The only name I really think is too much is [name]Lolita[/name].

Also, I have a niece named [name]Lexi[/name]! Occasionally, she does get called Sexy [name]Lexi[/name]! But only tongue in cheek

I also don’t have any negitivw associations with the name [name]Emmanuelle[/name]. But when I think [name]Carmen[/name], I think of [name]George[/name] Lopez’s show with his spoiled rotten, bitchy daughter named [name]Carmen[/name].

Names I think have that “sexy” image is:
[name]Lola[/name], [name]Lexi[/name], [name]Ashley[/name]/[name]Ashlyn[/name], [name]Briana[/name] (I know so many slutty girls with this name, so its ruined for me), and [name]Blaze[/name].

[name]Lola[/name] is cute to me, it’s nickname only, but not because its too sexy, it just feels a bit childlike.

[name]Lolita[/name] is, on the other hand, too loaded.

[name]Emmanuelle[/name] is a beautiful, religious name to me, as is [name]Emmanuel[/name]/[name]Immanuel[/name] for boys and Immanuela for girls. I don’t care about the porn, as [name]Blade[/name] said it was intended to contrast, rather like “sexy nuns.”

[name]Delilah[/name] and [name]Jezebel[/name] are no-goes for me.

[name]Anais[/name] doesn’t bother me.

[name]Sappho[/name] would. Not that sapphic love is so awful, but its so connected to the sexual genre I wouldn’t feel right naming a baby that. Would use [name]LONG[/name] before [name]Jezebel[/name]/[name]Delilah[/name] though.

I don’t like [name]Roxanne[/name], but not especially because of the song. I don’t mind [name]Roxy[/name]/[name]Roxie[/name] with [name]Roxana[/name]/Roxelana/[name]Raquel[/name]/[name]Raquela[/name] as long forms, I just find “anne” a displeasing sound.

I fine with all of the above mentioned names except for of course [name]Jezebel[/name]. With my accent, the first syllable sounds like “jizz” so eww. [name]Veronica[/name] and [name]Scarlet[/name] seem too sexy to bestow on a baby, [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Priscilla[/name] too, in my hometown it’s the name of an adult store.

@poppy, [name]Veronica[/name] is a fave of mine… but I never heard it as flirty, much less overtly sexual. I’m not like [name]HOW[/name] DARE YOU but I’m really intrigued. What makes it feel that way to you?

I see [name]Veronica[/name] as sexy because of the [name]Archie[/name] comics. [name]Archie[/name] has a love triangle with [name]Betty[/name] & [name]Veronica[/name]. [name]Betty[/name] is the girl-next-door while [name]Veronica[/name] is the vixen

All of the names listed above are sassy/sexy [name]IMO[/name], but I like most of them-

I would add-

[name]Sasha[/name], [name]Tatiana[/name], [name]Deidre[/name], [name]Colette[/name], [name]Alexis[/name], [name]Natasha[/name], [name]Natalia[/name], [name]Layla[/name],

and possibly [name]Eden[/name], [name]Eve[/name], [name]Danielle[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], and [name]India[/name].

My mn is [name]Clare[/name] which I view as sweet and classic but 100% of males, when they learned of it, said it was sexy…

My husband recently informed me that [name]Gretchen[/name] is a very sexy name. It’s a name I love but had never considered as such…

I find it interesting that people consider [name]Carmen[/name] to be sexy. I don’t know the association that makes it so. Where I live, it is a fairly common middle aged woman’s name. I know at least three or four Carmens, and to me it is a mom name!

I think [name]Anais[/name] and [name]Emmanuelle[/name] are very usable.

[name]Anastasia[/name] (from 50 shades of grey; this connection will pass)
[name]Desiree[/name] (could be seen as desiring in a sexual way)
[name]Lola[/name]/[name]Lolita[/name] (from Nabokov’s novel)

Stripper names: [name]Amber[/name], [name]Bambi[/name], [name]Brandi[/name], [name]Bunny[/name], [name]Candy[/name], [name]Charity[/name], [name]Chastity[/name], [name]Cherry[/name], [name]Crystal[/name], [name]Dawn[/name], [name]Destiny[/name], [name]Diamond[/name], [name]Electra[/name], [name]Ginger[/name], Glitter, [name]Heaven[/name], [name]Honey[/name], [name]Hope[/name], [name]Kitty[/name], [name]Mercedes[/name], [name]Misty[/name], [name]Paris[/name], [name]Porsche[/name], [name]Princess[/name], [name]Queen[/name]
