I love [name_f]Erin[/name_f]!

She’s streamlined, summery, sweet and has gorgeous connections to [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] which is perfect for me and my family ties to [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]. Personally I do not find [name_f]Erin[/name_f] outdated. I think she’s lovely. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister’s absolute favourite name is [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and I know a few little girl’s named [name_f]Erin[/name_f] so she feels fresh. I think [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is lovely.

[name_f]Shannon[/name_f] has never appealed to me. Growing up in an area with lots of [name_f]Irish[/name_f] influences and having [name_f]Irish[/name_f] ancestry/family (my dad is Scottish/Irish) this name is very popular. I know a lot of Shannon’s however I do not feel she has the same timeless feel of [name_f]Erin[/name_f]. [name_f]Shannon[/name_f] isn’t used nowadays so lacks that freshness and I find the sound just not as pretty. Still I do feel the appeal she’s [name_f]Irish[/name_f] but has an Anglicised feel so wouldn’t be tricky to pronounce, has positive associations with the ‘river Shannon’ and the surrounding area which is beautiful. Along with the meaning ‘wise’ but for me she just isn’t a favourite.

I like [name_f]Erin[/name_f] - friendly, concise and bright.

[name_f]Shannon[/name_f] is quite nice - it’s got a distinctive sound and I like the flow of it. Not my top choice but it would be unexpected to meet a little [name_f]Shannon[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Erin[/name_f] it reminds me of [name_f]Eden[/name_f] a lot. A short and sweet name.

[name_f]Shannon[/name_f] is a nice name but I feel like I’ve known a lot of Shannon’s and a lot of people with similar names ie I knew a [name_f]Shanae[/name_f] (it might be because in my country a lot of people have [name_f]Irish[/name_f] ancestory…) so if it was less common I would find it appealing!

I’ve always liked [name_f]Shannon[/name_f]. It has a pretty, distinctive sound and feels like a lively, sporty choice for a girl. Yes, it’s probably a bit dated now, but to me that’s part of the appeal. For a girl today, it would be a stand-out name. (I will say that the only [name_f]Shannon[/name_f] I knew when growing up was a boy, so it also feels nicely gender-neutral to me).

I’m a bit the other way on [name_f]Erin[/name_f]. It was just so common when I was growing up! There are 4 Erins in my circle of friends, plus another who is the sister of a friend. It also lacks something in how it looks - I don’t know if I can explain it! - it’s too brief and thin (while [name_f]Shannon[/name_f] is very pleasant visually, it’s nicely rounded).

I know 20-something sisters with these names!

I like the brightness of [name_f]Erin[/name_f], while [name_f]Shannon[/name_f] is a bit warmer. They feel Irish-American to me, though I think they’re used in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] as well.

Both are slightly dated. I’d be surprised (but intrigued!) to meet a young [name_f]Erin[/name_f] or [name_f]Shannon[/name_f]. [name_f]Shannon[/name_f] feels a bit more dated than [name_f]Erin[/name_f].

I’m an Erin (well, an Eryn). I am 27 now and knew no Erins at all growing up, the only ones I know now are younger than 16. My son is 4 and goes to nursery with an Eryn. I may be biased but I don’t consider it outdated at all.

Shannon, on the other hand, I consider outdated. It’s a very 90s name for me that didn’t really get used past this decade.

For reference, I’m in the UK.

Both feel a little dated to me, most Erins and Shannons I know are now in their 30’s.

However I dont think either of them are bad names or have bad associations with them. They both feel like 90’s unisex names.
