Our daughter was born on 4 [name_u]June[/name_u], and just over three weeks later we have decided on a name for her. She is Freyja [name_f]El[/name_f]ísabet.
We picked Freyja because it works perfectly in both Iceland and [name_f]England[/name_f] (and both languages), so practically it will be a great name for her to have, with family in both countries. Also because it is beautiful, of course. I’ve loved the name ever since I was a teenaged Norse mythology nerd
[name_f]El[/name_f]ísabet is a name that we both love and agreed was a real contender as soon as we found out I was pregnant - it’s classic, distinguished and also pretty international. It is pronounced and stressed differently than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. The stress falls on the first syllable, and it is pronounced [name_f]EL[/name_f]-ee-sah-bet.
Thank you to everyone on here who provided comments or advice over the past months. It’s been a fun process and I am delighted with the final pick - it suits her down to the ground and I don’t think we could have done much better!
Congratulations! Freyja [name_f]El[/name_f]ísabet is wonderful. I actually prefer the Icelandic pronunciation to the American; [name_f]El[/name_f]ísabet has a lighter sound to me.
