I’ve recently heard the name [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] on a couple of people (adult and child alike) and am really digging it for a boy’s name.
I also really like [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], so I’m curious what, if any, preference you have between the two?
Our top names currently are [name_m]Cormack[/name_m] (boy) and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] (girl), but I’d love to find a few other names that “go” with them in case these lose their luster or in case we have more kids!
(Middle name for [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] or [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] would likely be an honor name like [name_m]David[/name_m] or [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]).
I like both! I think I slightly prefer [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] as [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] makes me think of Monsters Inc! However thats definitely not a reason to steer away from it, it’s still very handsome.
Definitely [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]! Although a middle name starting with a D- does sound a bit clunky and awkward after the final -d sound in [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_m]Cormack[/name_m] and [name_m]Shep[/name_m] would be such a great set! [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] is just ok to me, and doesnt go near as well with sibs imo.
I prefer [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] isn’t a bad name I’m just not totally in love with the sound or nicknames. I also like it better in a potential subset with [name_m]Cormack[/name_m] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u].
That being said, [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_m]David[/name_m] both work pretty well.
I think I prefer [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] as a middle for [name_m]Cormack[/name_m] potentially, but it works with [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] nicely too.
I actually like both, but I prefer [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. However, [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]/[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] would come across as very, very purposely religious. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to think about. It also kind of would sound to me like you were saying “the shepherd, [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]/[name_m]David[/name_m].” Again, just something to think about
I appreciate the insights into potential middles of [name_m]David[/name_m]/[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] - these are honor names for my dad, but we’re not totally married to them. We will 98% use [name_m]Salvatore[/name_m] as a middle to honor my late father in law, as well as carry on a traditional family name.
This morning, I was thinking of [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] or [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] who would go by his middle name. I think it flows a bit better than [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] or [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] - but now I’m thinking [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] may be overtly Biblical (which we don’t mind having an obvious Biblical name, but maybe not a double-hitter!).
I love them both. My best friend’s little boy is [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] nn [name_u]Sully[/name_u], and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is on my list. I prefer the mn [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] with both.
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Salvatore[/name_m] or [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]! I would use [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] as first name, because I personally think it flows better!
I like them both. I like nicknames, and [name_m]Shep[/name_m] and [name_u]Sully[/name_u] are both great. I think I would more likely use [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u].
I would definitely recommend using the name you’ll call him as his first name. My mother has gone by her middle name since birth, and it has caused a lot of issues with airline tickets (she sometimes can’t purchase tickets in advance, and frequently gets tagged for extra searches), health insurance, you name it.
