Shia...What is the meaning? Middle names please! :)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! We are looking into baby boy names and we both like the sound of [name_u]Shia[/name_u]. I can’t find the meaning of it anywhere. Help! I had someone tell me it was Hebrew and that it means something along the lines of “[name_f]Praise[/name_f] God” or “Thanks to God”. But I can’t fine any info. Also, do you have any middle name pairings. We both love classic and Biblical names. And as you can tell, I adore soft/gentle boys names! Thanks for your help!

No idea. My only familiarity us with the notorious [name_u]Shia[/name_u] Lebeuf. I’m not really a fan. It sounds feminine to me.

I think [name_u]Shia[/name_u] is a great choice. I don’t know what it means so I’m no help there. Some classic or biblical middle name suggestions:

[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Alan[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]

I really like the flow of [name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m]

Good luck!

In my experience, [name_u]Shia[/name_u] (pron. Shee-ah) is a Hungarian Yiddish nickname for [name_m]Yeshaya[/name_m] יְש”ַעְיה (yeh-SHAH-ya), which is the source of the English version [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]. [name_m]Yeshaya[/name_m] means “God is salvation.” Apparently the actor’s parents meant it to be שי יה (pron. [name_m]Shai[/name_m]-ah), which does mean “gift of God.”

Shiah is one of my favorites. I think Shiah is a better spelling, especially with the conflicts between the [name_u]Shia[/name_u] ‘she-ah’ & [name_f]Sunni[/name_f] Muslims.
The name seems to come from [name_m]Shai[/name_m] which means ‘gift’ in Hebrew. A nature-y name with a similar sound is [name_f]Shire[/name_f] (shy-er). It’s a bit more masculine.

ad10 gave some good suggestions, my taste is more wordy/nature-y (Shiah [name_u]Reed[/name_u], Shiah [name_u]Grey[/name_u], etc)

Totally not understanding this fear of soft names on a boy. [name_u]Shia[/name_u] ends in a vowel sound! Oh no!

I think spring13 gave you the best information you’ll be able to find online. [name_u]Shia[/name_u] would be a refreshing choice for a boy, but it does bring to mind the [name_u]Shia[/name_u] sect of Islam and this song: "Shia LaBeouf" Live - Rob Cantor - YouTube. The song is obviously much less significant. :stuck_out_tongue:

Totally agree with [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. Soft name are fine for boys, and [name_u]Shia[/name_u] is very handsome.
I believe [name_u]Shia[/name_u] means “gift”. I would pair it with longer, solid middle name.
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_u]Shia[/name_u] [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
