As you know, I have been hunting for the elusive, perfect name for a girl as mine never seem to stick for long, and after long consideration, We have found it! And on the top 50 (in recent years at least! Not sure about 2011 where I live) no less when I have always sworn I wouldn’t even breach top 100 territory! Ready for it!?!
[name]Natalie[/name]!
Big jump to go from some of the frilly, multi-syllable names I have tossed out to you all in the past to [name]Natalie[/name]! So just a few things, first and foremost, opinions on [name]Natalie[/name] please!!! What do you all think? [name]Do[/name] you know many young Natalies? Despite the popularity, I know only Natalies my age or older!
The one nagging thought in my head is that I keep thinking ‘just [name]Natalie[/name]’ or that it is too plain? But anything looks plain next to some of my other choices! [name]Natalie[/name] is one of those names I have known for forever and have glanced at repeatedly but always avoided because it was ‘too popular’ but in 2010 there were only 65 named out if 50,000+ babies despite it being lodged firmly in the top name list! Popularity be damned! I never saw this coming, but I might be head over heels for this!
Now for the reason for the thread! [name]Natalie[/name] needs a perfect, somewhat whimsical sounding middlename! Something naturey maybe, or floral, or a word name, something to make it a little less plain feeling! I like [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Winter[/name] and [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Snow[/name] but they are a bit overkill with the meaning of [name]Natalie[/name]. But I know you get the general idea! Speaking of the meaning, is it weird to name a girl [name]Natalie[/name] if she is born sometime other than the winter!?
Last name is Z@ch@ruk, said like zah-car-uck.
Sorry for the novel! I will post ideas if I come across anything in my travels tonight!! Thank you for your opinions and advice Berries!!
I think [name]Natalie[/name] is gorgeous. I know several of all different ages, and I think it ages very well. Plus I love [name]Natalie[/name] Portman. I don’t think it’s weird to name a non-winter baby [name]Natalie[/name]… None of the ones I know were born around [name]Christmas[/name], plus all the [name]Holly[/name]'s!
I happen to love [name]Natalie[/name]! Well, I should rephrase that… [name]Natalie[/name] makes me grin. Like an idiot. My beautiful, talented, smart, funny, adoring, lovey-dovey, perfect (albeit know-it-all, matter-of-fact, I’m-always-right-and-you-better-believe-it!!!) baby sister is a [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Ruth[/name], and I just adore her to bits. She’s one of my best friends and my life would be so boring without her, bahaha. She was almost a [name]Melissa[/name] [name]Jo[/name] and I’m so glad my parents changed their minds–she is so not a [name]Melissa[/name]!
Much as I love my sister, and much as I am quite a fan of [name]Natalie[/name] now, I don’t think I ever would have considered it if my parents hadn’t used it for [name]Tallie[/name] (which I call her almost exclusively. [name]Just[/name] [name]Natalie[/name] is sweet, too, though, and I do like [name]Nattie[/name] and [name]Allie[/name] as well!). It’s sweet and chic and French and semi-classic, but “N” names are just not my thing, so it’s just not something I would have used… I do love it now, though! When I had had it on my list a while ago, I had liked [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Joy[/name] and [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Arianna[/name] (much prefer [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Ariana[/name] now, though). I don’t particularly like either combo now… What about:
For what it’s worth, my sister’s birthday is in [name]October[/name], and she’s never gotten questioned about it. The only other [name]Natalie[/name] I know semi-well is just over a year old and was born in [name]March[/name]. So I definitely think you could use [name]Natalie[/name] if she isn’t a winter baby!
I love [name]Natalie[/name]. I don’t think it’s frilly or plain at all- I think it describes a smart, strong and sweet girl. You can nickname her [name]Nat[/name] or [name]Allie[/name], and I think it suits a female of any age. In addition, it sounds fantastic with your last name and goes with a variety of middle names.
I think it’s fine to go with a winter-esque middle name for a non-winter baby. I doubt many people will know the meaning of [name]Natalie[/name] or would read into it that much. I like [name]Neve[/name] as a wintry middle name but the two N sounds might be a little much. I also like [name]Winter[/name]. Personally I find [name]Snow[/name] a little too, I don’t know, literal for a given name, but if you like it, then it works.
Oh, [name]Natalie[/name] is gorgeous! It’s one of my top favorites! I have loved the name ever since hearing the name for the first time when I was in second grade. I’ve only known one person with the name. You picked a winner with [name]Natalie[/name]!
[name]Natalie[/name] was my favourite name a few years ago – then some close friends had a baby girl and named her [name]Natalie[/name]! I still remember the feeling of the bottom of my stomach dropping when I got the message with the name that meant I couldn’t use it anymore!
Anyway! I still love [name]Natalie[/name], it’s a gorgeous name.
I wasn’t terribly concerned but my one in real life friend that I bounce names off of was really thrown by the meaning, clearly it is just in her head! All the Natalies I know were also not born in the winter or at [name]Christmas[/name]! It’s great to see such a positive response overall so far!!! As for nicknames, I haven’t thought that far ahead, but like [name]Nat[/name] and [name]Tallie[/name] a lot!
There are some great suggestions for middles so far! We are definitely on the right track here, but [name]Andrew[/name] isn’t thrilled yet and neither am I, in his words, they are just alright, but not exceptional! Liking [name]Wren[/name] and [name]Azalea[/name] the best so far! Many of the suggestions are names friends and family have already used though!!
Also, I love [name]Natalie[/name] Portman too! She definitely helps the image of the name! Thanks again berries! I know we will find the right one soon, so close I can taste it!!
I really like [name]Natalie[/name]. I think it’s a great name - very pretty, but not terribly frilly. I also don’t know any young [name]Natalie[/name]'s, I’ve only ever met one and she was my age (mid 20’s).
I love [name]Natalie[/name]. Congratulations! It’s a gorgeous name and is actually quite timeless. Also, I knew a few Natalies, from teenagers to middle-aged, and they all like their name. I don’t think it matters at all that she isn’t going to be born in the winter, although I do agree that [name]Snow[/name] and [name]Winter[/name] may be overkill.
[name]Natalie[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] is my favorite of those listed. Also, with the syllabic rhythm of [name]Natalie[/name], you could get away with a lot of middle names.
[name]Natalie[/name] [name]Anastasia[/name] (I love this combination, but [name]Anastasia[/name] does mean He is risen so that is something to consider - [name]Christmas[/name] and [name]Easter[/name])
[name]Natalie[/name] [name]Adair[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name] [name]Mireille[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name] [name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name] [name]Celine[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name] [name]Adele[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] (might be cool with the meaning of [name]Natalie[/name])
[name]Natalie[/name] is a lovely name, I know one [name]Natalie[/name] in my daughter’s first grade class, and one [name]Natalie[/name] who is about 10 or 11 years old, I also know a [name]Natalie[/name] who is probably in her 70’s, she goes to church with my parents. Out of the middle name combos listed so far, given your request for nature names that might give the name a bit more flair, I like [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Azalea[/name] the best. I love [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Rose[/name], but that may be too plain for your taste.
You ladies are so awesome!!! <3 Thanks so much again!!
Some of the suggestions included some family names that I had considered as middles in the past and would be great either way! Except they feel plain, but Plain doesn’t matter if it honours family! Those are Natalie Anne, for my Great Grandmother, Natalie Jane, for my mother Janet, which also brings to mind, Natalie Irene, for my Grandmother, and my middle name, Natalie Margaret, Natalie Pearl, Natalie Ellen, or Natalie Margeax for my Maternal Grandmother, who was Margaret Ellen.
Natalie Plum is really cute!!!
I also like Natalie Rue, but the meaning of Rue throws me off.
Thoughts on some other suggestions:
Natalie Meadow - I thought of this last night, and feel it’s really pretty!!
Natalie Zephyr - This also occurred to me last night, I seem to love Z sounds in the middles, like Azalea, and Zephyr with our last name.
Natalie Wren - Still liking this, but Andrew isn’t wowed by it
Natalie Coral - Love Coral!!!
Natalie Pearl - I mentioned above this could honour my late Grandma Margaret and it’s very pretty!
Natalie Clover - I love the feel of this one, but not overly fond of Clover, but it does hit the mark for the whimsy I am looking for!!!
Natalie Rose is pretty, but Rose seems so filler
I had also thought of Natalie Magnolia, (as someone suggested!) and Natalie Cordelia, which also sound nice, but don’t hit the mark yet!!
The problem is many of my favorite names also end in the Lee sound, and Natalie Rosalie (example) and etc sounds too… rhymey and run in. I’m going to send Andrew a message and ask about some of your suggestions!! I’ll let you know what he thinks! Keep these brilliant suggestions coming!!!
[name]Andrew[/name] shot down all the middles in my last post, very much so. Gah. Hmmmm I haven’t brought up any of the family names other than [name]Pearl[/name] yet. He isn’t feeling the thing and word names or the names with Z in the first syllable. We aren’t on the same page for the first time ever!!!
[name]Luna[/name] and [name]Lilou[/name] are indeed Bunnies! So no need to coordinate wih those!! Maybe you can suggest absolutely any other names that sound good?! I thought we had a plan but he isn’t going for any of them!!!
