Lately I’ve been crushing on the idea of short (1-2 syllable) and distinctive European names (not necessarily any nationality, although I’m finding I’m most drawn to [name_u]French[/name_u], [name_m]Dutch[/name_m], [name_m]German[/name_m], and Scandinavian at the moment!). Wondering if you have any other names that feel like these?
I like [name_m]Bastien[/name_m], [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], and [name_m]Diego[/name_m], but they feel a little longer and more romantic than punchy and stylish; also good, just not quite what I’m thinking here. Anyway, can you think of any others that fit this aesthetic?
@tallemaja - [name_m]Finlo[/name_m]! I love him so much but really struggle with the idea of using a name related to another religion’s god that I do not believe in. Otherwise [name_m]Finlo[/name_m] would be amazing! I do like [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] and [name_m]Ivo[/name_m], too… [name_m]Lev[/name_m] is so fun but feels “taken” as I attempted to nn my nephew this… it didn’t really stick, but it still feels “his” somehow!
@shanade213 - thank you! [name_u]Valo[/name_u] is super cool, I like him a lot (I’ve always loved [name_u]Vale[/name_u], but he doesn’t feel European enough here). I also can’t believe I forgot Bjorn/Soren!
Nice list! [name_m]Florin[/name_m], [name_u]Floris[/name_u], [name_m]Eero[/name_m], [name_m]Cyril[/name_m], [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] and [name_m]Timo[/name_m] are great! [name_m]Kjell[/name_m] looks interesting too - how would you say it?
“Short and distinctive European name” brings [name_f]Nina[/name_f] straight to mind for me. Surprised I haven’t seen her on any of the previous lists.
Some fantastic names already mentioned
@heartwings - LOVE [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] but it’s not necessarily the vibe I’m going for here - I’m thinking about a shorter one especially as a middle for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], and I don’t think [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] works haha! But it is a gorgeous name; I like [name_m]Marius[/name_m] too but like [name_m]Marinus[/name_m] even more.
@greyblue - thanks girl! tbh I’m not 100% about [name_m]Kjell[/name_m] but I think the idea is it’s said like “chell”? Hoping if there’s a Nordic berry on here, they will correct me. I think it’s a Scandi name. [name_m]Ansel[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m], and [name_m]Tor[/name_m] are brilliant; I keep forgetting [name_m]Tor[/name_m] is Scandi… I have been thinking about the Hebrew origins lately! But [name_m]Tor[/name_m] and [name_m]Bram[/name_m] are already “maybes” as I’m redoing (or more, refreshing?) my list, so you are definitely on the right track. I’m a big [name_m]Ivo[/name_m] fan too, but idk that I can see me using it?
@columbiacharm - thanks girl! LOVE [name_m]Alban[/name_m], can’t believe I forgot about him. [name_u]Remy[/name_u] is nice too although lately I’ve been crushing on [name_u]Romy[/name_u] for a girl so I doubt I’d do both. [name_m]Willem[/name_m] I want to like but I live on a street with a few farms and one of them has a goat out by the road… I’ve named him [name_m]Willem[/name_m] in my head lol so it doesn’t feel very human anymore. I always find it sort of awkward to say, too. So suffice it I think that one is out, but is so pretty to look at! I also am quite fond of [name_m]Anton[/name_m] lately; much cooler than the popular [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]! I want to love [name_m]Anders[/name_m] but I like [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] more myself.
@sarajane83 - thanks girl - that would’ve worked perfectly but I’m specifically looking for boys names here. [name_f]Nina[/name_f] has never been my favorite, but if I were looking for short and distinctive female European names… that would have definitely qualified!
