I’ve found that a lot of the names I like are quite short. For example I like [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f], and [name_f]Jane[/name_f], all of which are one syllable.
Our surname is Korean, and while I don’t want to share it online, I can say that all Korean surnames are one syllable (Choi, [name_u]Kim[/name_u], [name_u]Lee[/name_u], Jung, Han, Yoo, [name_f]Moon[/name_f], Gu, etc.)
Would a short first name sound odd with our short last name? I can’t help but think that, for example, [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_u]Kim[/name_u], [name_f]Mae[/name_f] Yoo, or [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Choi sounds less pleasing than a longer first name, like [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
What are your opinions? Should we cut our short options or are they alright to leave? I’ve loved these names since I was younger, but I’m not sure if we can use them with our surname. Also, if you have any first name suggestions for us, let us know!
I think it’s perfectly fine. I like the example first/last name combos you provided. There are plenty of people out there who have single syllable first names with single syllable last names.
I think it’s fine, the examples you listed sound good in my opinion. If the last name has a very strong sound like [name_m]Brick[/name_m] or [name_m]Clark[/name_m], I would pick a softer first name, but I don’t see any reason to cut all the short names on your list.
It is perfect fine, as a Kpop fan i know my biases has three syllable names. Nam Woo Hyun, Jang Dong Woo, [name_m]Park[/name_m] Myung Eun etc.-I am a fan since 2008 lol- I really like [name_f]Mae[/name_f] from your suggestions and maybe you will consider [name_f]Mai[/name_f]/[name_u]Min[/name_u]/Mir?
I think the short names work great! To me, the shorter name examples you used emphasize your Korean heritage, whereas the longer names make me think less about heritage (perhaps because the last name becomes more prominent within the name overall). For example, in [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] Choi, my eye goes to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], whereas in [name_f]Mae[/name_f] Choi I look at the first and last name as a whole. So, it may depend on whether you want to play up your heritage or not.
