Short & Sweet: Thoughts?

I’ve been having a great time revisiting some of my past favourites (hanging out on my long-list), and rediscovering the beauty in their simplicity. Many, I feel, are definitely going to make a come0back soon, making their way up my list.

What are you own thoughts on each of these names? I’d love to hear: the good, the bad & the ugly. Also, if time permits, I’d love a few suggestions of other names in the same vein/style?

[name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_f]Noa[/name_f]
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_f]Anja[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarai[/name_f]
[name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Elke[/name_f]/[name_f]Elka[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilja[/name_f]

I absolutely love the sound of [name_u]Rue[/name_u], but I would worry about giving a child a name with that meaning/connotation.

I love shorter names! They have a lot of energy and fiestiness in such a few letters. [name_f]Clio[/name_f] is one of my favourites because of the mythology connection (I’ve always loved history, so it has a lot of meaning), and I like [name_u]Echo[/name_u], [name_f]Elke[/name_f]/[name_f]Elka[/name_f], [name_u]Rue[/name_u], and [name_f]Lilja[/name_f].

I really like [name_f]Elke[/name_f], [name_f]Anja[/name_f], [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] and [name_u]Rue[/name_u]!

[name_u]Echo[/name_u] - [name_u]Echo[/name_u] is a name I kind if like. I enjoy the e beginning and the o at the end but I’m personally not such if I like the word enough? Some others like [name_u]Echo[/name_u] could be [name_u]Ember[/name_u], [name_f]Willow[/name_f] or [name_u]Poet[/name_u]?

[name_f]Noa[/name_f] - I love the sound, but for me, I’ve met too many boy Noahs. It does look and sound sweet though. Some other ideas: [name_f]Nola[/name_f], [name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Nia[/name_f] and [name_u]Tali[/name_u]

[name_f]Clio[/name_f] -I love this!! Its so pretty and I love the imagery. [name_f]Kia[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f] or [name_u]Hero[/name_u] could be alternatives

[name_f]Anja[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Anja[/name_f]. It feels familiar with the An beginning but unexpected at the same time. [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] or [name_f]Freja[/name_f] maybe?

[name_f]Sarai[/name_f] - [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] is my favourite girls name so I’m very biased. I love [name_f]Sarai[/name_f]. It’s so interesting, beautiful and different. Alternatives: [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Kezia[/name_f]?

[name_u]Rue[/name_u] - the meaning is slightly off putting, but I think it can also be a kind of plant, plus i love the sound and feel of it enough to overlook that. It’s really sweet. Alternatives: [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u]?

[name_f]Elke[/name_f]/[name_f]Elka[/name_f] - not a fan personally. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not my style.

[name_f]Lilja[/name_f]- Is this similar to [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]? If so, I really love it. Adorable but sleek and elegant! Others: [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]

Often, less is more! [name_f]Clio[/name_f] is my favorite here.

I would steer clear of [name_u]Echo[/name_u] because of the Amazon speaker system. [name_f]Anja[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] are going to get pronunciation problems, [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] less so because it’s obvious that one is a Scandinavian name, but [name_f]Anja[/name_f] looks like it’s some variation of [name_u]Angie[/name_u] so I think it will just be a constant pain.

[name_f]Sarai[/name_f] is generally a little confusing, not terribly so, so I think that one is fine, and [name_u]Rue[/name_u] is straightforward as well though the meaning is unfortunate.

[name_f]Elka[/name_f] is a nice name, better choice than [name_u]Echo[/name_u] at this moment I think.

[name_u]Echo[/name_u]: I like [name_u]Echo[/name_u]. Maybe a bit too outré for my taste, but it’s cute.
[name_f]Noa[/name_f]: I like [name_f]Noa[/name_f]. In English-speaking countries it would be confused with the male [name_u]Noah[/name_u], but I think it’s still usable.
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]: I like this and find it usable but prefer the spelling [name_f]Cleo[/name_f].
[name_f]Anja[/name_f]: I really like this name. It’s pretty and unusual. The spelling [name_f]Anya[/name_f] would be easier for English speakers to understand though.
[name_f]Sarai[/name_f]: I’m not really sure how to pronounce this one. Is it SAR-eye? sah-[name_m]RYE[/name_m]?
[name_u]Rue[/name_u] - A bit too short for me. I think it would make a cute nickname though.
[name_f]Elke[/name_f]/[name_f]Elka[/name_f]: I think this name is nice but it doesn’t really grab me for some reason.
[name_f]Lilja[/name_f]: I really like [name_f]Lilja[/name_f]! It has a lovely sound and a nice floral meaning. I would spell it [name_f]Lilya[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] in an English-speaking country though.

I like [name_f]Anja[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] the most.

Suggestions:
[name_f]Sonja[/name_f]
[name_f]Katya[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Anoushka[/name_f]
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f]
Iskra

[name_f]Clio[/name_f] and [name_f]Anja[/name_f] are my favorite, both alluring, and chic. [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] is pretty too.

[name_u]Echo[/name_u] is probably my least favorite, I just don’t find it appealing. I’m indifferent of the rest.

Some other suggestions:

[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_u]Alix[/name_u]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_u]Reeve[/name_u]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_f]Inez[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Maud/name_f
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Noor[/name_f]
[name_f]Oona[/name_f]
[name_f]Plum[/name_f]
[name_u]Romy[/name_u]
[name_u]Adair[/name_u]

I love [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] and [name_u]Echo[/name_u]! I also really like [name_f]Noa[/name_f]. Not a fan of [name_f]Anja[/name_f], [name_f]Lilja[/name_f], and [name_f]Elka[/name_f].

(A little late on the reply but) Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated.

I like short names, they’re usually quite spunky.
[name_u]Echo[/name_u]: For some reason reminds me of tunnels and big rooms.
[name_f]Noa[/name_f]: Sounds a lot like [name_u]Noah[/name_u], I think it sounds like a girl version of [name_u]Noah[/name_u].
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]: I like this a lot, but I’d spell it [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], sort of like [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f].
[name_f]Anja[/name_f]: Pretty, it reminds me of [name_f]Anjali[/name_f], like a short form?
[name_f]Sarai[/name_f]: I love this name
[name_u]Rue[/name_u]: Hmm… Has a nice sound, but I really don’t like it because of the meaning. What about [name_u]Rae[/name_u] or [name_u]Ray[/name_u]?
[name_f]Elke[/name_f]/[name_f]Elka[/name_f]: Makes me think of the woods, I like it… I think it gives an impish feel, in a good way…
[name_f]Lilja[/name_f]: Immediately, I tear this apart into [name_f]Lil[/name_f] Ja or [name_f]Lil[/name_f] Jar, or something like that. It’s unique and I like it but to me it sounds like [name_f]Lil[/name_f] is one word on it’s own. I’m not sure if I’m pronouncing correctly. (Sorry!)
Other short names I like are:
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_u]Seren[/name_u]
[name_f]Uma[/name_f]/[name_f]Ooma[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f]

I love names like this!

[name_u]Joss[/name_u]

I love [name_f]Clio[/name_f] and [name_f]Anja[/name_f]. [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] is good too, it sounds like the protagonist of a YA novel.

choupette – [name_f]Freya[/name_f] (spelled Freyja) is tying with [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] for my #1 place, and has been for a long time now. [name_f]Katya[/name_f] is nice, though I do find it a bit harsh, same with [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] & Iskra (I think K’s I find harsh in general).

bedhead – [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Lux[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] & [name_u]Adair[/name_u] are all on my long list. [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] is nice, just not entirely sure it’s for me…

emiberry – [name_u]Seren[/name_u] is great, but is far too similar to my surname (Which would be the little one’s too). [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is nice, but I find it too close to ‘liar’ to consider further.

katinka – [name_f]Lumi[/name_f], [name_u]Wyn[/name_u], Elska, [name_f]Zosia[/name_f], [name_f]Zelie[/name_f], [name_f]Saga[/name_f], [name_f]Anka[/name_f] & Tesni are all on my long list. Great suggestions - very much my style. I like [name_f]Liv[/name_f], [name_f]Rumi[/name_f] (I have Runi on my list), [name_f]Tempe[/name_f] & Esri.

Thankyou all. Making me see some on my longlist with different eyes; reminding my why they’re there.

Looooove [name_u]Echo[/name_u]! Also, [name_f]Elka[/name_f] is super pretty!
