We have an [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] (mn is a family name) and an [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Elora[/name_f]. We want to have 1, maybe 2 more children. If we have another boy, his first name would be [name_u]August[/name_u]. All coincidently begin with vowels. If we were to have a girl, would her name feel out of place with her siblings if it didn’t begin with a vowel?? We never meant to have a “vowel name theme”, but here we are. Lol
I don’t think it needs to be a vowel, they are your kids! That being said, choosing an O girl name ([name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]) would complete that set nicely.
No, I wouldn’t worry about it! [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], & [name_u]August[/name_u] make a really cute sibset.
No, and to be honest, if you hadn’t pointed it out it isn’t something I would have likely noticed. I don’t think it’s a big deal at all. More important to choose a name you love!
Girls: [name_f]Ursa[/name_f], , Ulyssa, , [name_f]Unity[/name_f], , [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], , Uraina, , Ulaylie, ,
The only thing I noticed was that your boy names both have six letters, so for me, I would pick a girls name that has 4 letters as well. That is a total OCD thing though so if the vowel thing would bother you I say go ahead and continue with it, if you have no issues then, by all means, choose any name you want, most people won’t even notice.
I don’t think it’s a very noticeable pattern (I wouldn’t even have called it a pattern really, if you didn’t ask). I think any name, starting with any letter, would fit in fine.
I didn’t even notice the vowel thing until you mentioned it, I personally don’t think your children/other people would even notice that all their names don’t begin with the same pattern. They all have beautiful names so people would definitely notice that
Personally, I would be tempted to keep it for a fourth and final child. If you dont want that, I would e courage breaking the pattern with baby number 3, which is fine. I have cousins [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and thought nothing of it. When baby three was named [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], I noticed a pattern. We could guess baby four was [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] before her name was announced.
So, first of all, let’s come to this from the perspective that choosing names you love and that you think will suit your kids well is THE most important consideration. Coordinating sibling names are cute, but once your kids are grown up and out in the world (or even once they start school), no one is really going to care what their siblings’ names are.
That being said, of course we want our kids’ names to sound nice together! We are trying to name a third child, too, and I’m definitely thinking about how each name I like sounds with my other kids’ names.
Here’s the thing, though: [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and [name_u]August[/name_u] actually have several common features.
- They all start with vowels
- They all end with consonants
- They’re all two syllables
- They’re stylistically similar (old-fashioned names currently experiencing a revival)
- They all rank in popularity between 100-200
- They all have an even number of letters
You could probably pick one or two of those features to match in the next sibling’s name, but if you try to match ALL six features, you’ll drive yourself crazy – and maybe end up with a name you don’t really even like that much.
What jumps out at ME is that they’re all two syllables. What jumps out at YOU is that they all start with vowels. The responder above noted that maybe the boys’ names should have six letters and the girls’ names should have four, which is not something I would have ever thought of.
It’s possible to pick lots of names that [name_m]DON[/name_m]'T fit. Here are some ridiculous examples:
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_f]Bryleigh[/name_f]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_m]Jax[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]
But there are plenty of names that [name_f]DO[/name_f] fit, and they don’t have to start with vowels. I think all these sibsets work quite well, for example:
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_u]Theo[/name_u]
No, it is always better to pick the name that you love more rather than the one you feel goes the best. I don’t think anyone with much maturity would feel left out because their name starts with a consonant lol
