I love this site, but this is my first time posting. I’m looking for a name for my second child, due in February. I have some ideas in mind, but am feeling stumped overall, so I’d love some suggestions.
Our daughter is [name]Anna[/name] [name]Lucia[/name]. Our last name is Italian, 3 syllables, beginning with T. With our first daughter both names were family names, and I love how the combination worked out, the first name being classic, with an Italian middle. I’m not Italian (my name is [name]Heidi[/name], my heritage is german) but I need to have a name that works in Italian for my husband’s side of the family. Ideally I’d find a name that goes with [name]Anna[/name] that is classic, with an Italian middle name. Or, I’d do an Italian first, if there was something I could find that I like.
I’d rather stay away from an “A” name, so as not to get a theme going.
For a boy, we are strongly considering [name]Thomas[/name] Fiorigio. [name]Both[/name] are family names, and his nickname would be “[name]Fio[/name].” I also love the name [name]Luca[/name], but think [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Luca[/name] might be too matchy? Maybe we could name a 3rd child [name]Luca[/name].
For a girl name, I’m stumped. I like [name]Eloise[/name], but am worried about the popularity of [name]Ella[/name] and having lots of [name]Elly[/name]'s in her class. I like [name]Josephine[/name], but don’t like [name]Josie[/name]. I like [name]Allegra[/name], but don’t want another A. We like the nickname [name]Pia[/name] and I love [name]Olympia[/name], but my husband has vetoed it.
[name]Anna[/name] [name]Lucia[/name] is so pretty! I love [name]Eloise[/name], and you could always use [name]Lola[/name] for a nickname. [name]Josephine[/name] is lovely too, and you could use [name]Joey[/name], Sephy, Phina, or Phini as nicknames instead of [name]Josie[/name]. [name]Pia[/name] could be a nickname for [name]Sophia[/name]… I think [name]Thomas[/name] Fiorigio is great. I wouldn’t use [name]Luca[/name] with [name]Anna[/name] [name]Lucia[/name]-- way too matchy.
Classic names that go well with [name]Anna[/name]:
Thank you for your comments! I really appreciate it.
I think [name]Josephine[/name] is at the top of my list, with [name]Jo[/name] as the nickname, ala [name]Jo[/name] [name]March[/name]. I also like [name]Posey[/name].
I’m having a disconnect between long names that I love with nicknames I don’t, and nicknames I love with long names I don’t. [name]Long[/name] names I love with nicknames I don’t: [name]Virginia[/name], [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Eloise[/name]…and Nicknames I love: [name]Liv[/name] (any form, but [name]Olivia[/name] is way too popular), [name]Clo[/name] (from family name [name]Clotilda[/name]), [name]Pia[/name] (but husband doesn’t like Olympa), and I love a lot of the [name]Margaret[/name] nicknames but don’t love [name]Margaret[/name] (like [name]Maggy[/name], [name]Meg[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Greta[/name]).
We found out we are having a second girl, so I need to find a girl name to go with [name]Anna[/name] [name]Lucia[/name]. If we choose [name]Eloise[/name], any other suggestions for an Italian middle name? [name]Anna[/name] [name]Lucia[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] ___. I like [name]Allegra[/name], but our last name starts with T, so then her initials would be EAT (no).
I like [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Eve[/name], and it would honor e.e. cummings, my favorite poet, but my husband is not really on board with this idea. Another option is [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Valentina[/name] - is this too cute/hokey for a February baby? [name]Valentino[/name] is a family name.
Other names still on my short list are [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Olympia[/name]/[name]Pia[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Cate[/name] and [name]Vera[/name].
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Valentina[/name] is my favorite from your list! [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] is beautiful, also.
[name]Eva[/name] was another name that came to mind as a first name:
[name]Eva[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Eva[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Eva[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Eva[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Hi[/name],
I was searching for a middle name to go with [name]Lucia[/name] as our second daughter is due in [name]August[/name] and your post came up in the google search! I’m curious to know what name you chose for your daughter as my first daughter’s name is Elloise [name]Sofia[/name]!
Cheers
