We named our first born [name]Beckett[/name] [name]Finn[/name] D_____ (2 syllables with emphasis on second syllable) and never thought we could love a name more. It was unique but not off the wall, easy to spell, reflected our English/Irish ancestry as well as our love for theater (honoring playwright [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Beckett[/name].) We now find ourselves expecting baby #2 this [name]September[/name], and we’re at a loss when it comes to names. We want something that flows nicely with [name]Beckett[/name], isn’t traditional, is easy to spell, not in the top 200 in popularity ([name]Beckett[/name] was #480, [name]Finn[/name] was #368), doesn’t lend itself easily to nicknames, and just sounds cool. Not too much to ask, right? We tend to like 1-2 syllable names (because of the nickname factor.) For boys, we like last names used as first names, but don’t want him to end up sounding like a law firm (Hubby is a lawyer.) For girls we like more feminine names as well as unisex/last names paired with feminine middles. We absolutely refuse to use family names because it gets way too messy trying to please everyone. Here is our current list, we just haven’t fallen in love with any of them yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
[name]Trumen[/name] [name]Jett[/name] D gets my #1 vote for a boy.
For a girl I love: [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Harper[/name] or [name]Violet[/name].
[name]Harper[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] and [name]Beckett[/name] [name]Finn[/name] would be a great sibset!
or…
[name]Harper[/name] [name]Story[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] [name]Maisie[/name]
Thoughts or new suggestions? I love the idea of [name]Bronte[/name] (B name with literary ties) but I want something a litte easier for the masses to say and spell.
I’m not a huge fan of [name]Sawyer[/name] on a girl. It sounds very masculine to me. I really love [name]Harper[/name] with [name]Beckett[/name]. I think [name]Harper[/name] [name]Mae[/name] would be perfect.
I love [name]Sawyer[/name] most off your list with [name]Beckett[/name] [name]Finn[/name]. It is really great! [name]Do[/name] you want to use [name]Quinn[/name] as a middle name even if it rhymes with [name]Finn[/name]?
My favorites with [name]Beckett[/name] are [name]Auden[/name], [name]Carson[/name], [name]Hadley[/name], and [name]Willa[/name]. For a middle name, I’d choose something soft and slightly classic, along the lines of [name]Belle[/name], [name]Blair[/name], [name]Cate[/name], [name]Faye[/name], [name]Glenn[/name], [name]Greer[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Nell[/name], [name]Paige[/name], [name]Reese[/name], [name]Tess[/name], or [name]Wynne[/name].
I actually know a girl named [name]Bronte[/name] (she’s seventeen). I’ve always thought it was a great name. I really like the way it sounds with [name]Beckett[/name], even though I’m not usually a fan of siblings receiving names starting with the same letter. It’s one of the more feminine options, which is something I’m always concerned about, though I don’t know about you.
I like [name]Arden[/name], too, though not nearly as much.
I don’t think that people will have too much trouble with [name]Bronte[/name], you aren’t naming her [name]Persephone[/name] or something complicated like that. It’s not something like Ayshlee (I actually saw that name the other day in real like, and I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be pronounced like [name]Ashley[/name]).
I don’t think you should go with [name]Quinn[/name] as a middle name because it rhymes with [name]Finn[/name] and isn’t very feminine. That being said, if you were going with literary names…
[name]Harper[/name] is a great first name, unisex like you like, and the author of To Kill A Mockingbird. For middle names, you could go with something like [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Mae[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]April[/name], or even [name]Leigh[/name] (if you wanted to get really into the literary scene)
I love the name [name]Sawyer[/name] for a girl, even though I only know boy Sawyers. [name]Sawyer[/name] goes great ([name]IMO[/name]) with any of the middles listed above.
[name]Quinn[/name] could be a first, since it’s unisex, nn-less, and pretty cute for a girl (also goes with the unintentional Glee-theme happening in your names). It lends itself well to a variety of fem names.
Overall, your best bet is probably unisex firsts (that may or may not be linked to literature) paired with floral or vintage feminista middles. I also think that [name]Bronte[/name] is well known, easy to spell, and beautiful! Congrats!
I love the name [name]Bronte[/name]. [name]Bee[/name] would be a cute nickname for her.
I also like [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Eliot[/name] ([name]George[/name] [name]Eliot[/name] was actually born [name]Mary[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Evans[/name], she changed her name so her work would be taken seriously.) I like [name]Eliot[/name] for a middle name because it sounds a little too close to [name]Beckett[/name].
I don’t love [name]Sawyer[/name] for a girl.
What about [name]Maisie[/name] [name]Eliot[/name]? [name]Maisie[/name] from [name]Henry[/name] [name]James[/name]’ What [name]Maisie[/name] knew and [name]Eliot[/name] for [name]George[/name] [name]Eliot[/name].
Wow! I’m so glad that I posted here on Nameberry because you all have given me some very well thought out replies. I really love many of the names that you’ve suggested. Now I just have to narrow it down. I would love to hear any more ideas that you all may have. Thanks!
Loving [name]Abbott[/name] [name]Bronte[/name] as a little sister for [name]Beckett[/name] [name]Finn[/name]! I always thought that i liked [name]Abbott[/name] as a boys name, but now that you mention it as a girls name i like it even better! This is due to the fact that i [name]LOVE[/name] the nickname [name]Abbey[/name], but would refrain from using [name]Abigail[/name] due to popularity! With that said, i would vote for [name]Abbott[/name] “[name]Abbey[/name]” [name]Bronte[/name]…fits perfectly!
